This is only a suggestion and I will not have the time do anything about it myself. However, down south where I am visiting, there were two trees along the main street which were covered in large red poppies in the week of Remembrance day. It was an impressive and touching sight. If anybody had the goodwill, energy, time or skills (again sorry, I am unable to help at all) it might be a fundraising idea and a marking of respect if the Christmas light tree could be decorated with poppies prior to the lights. They could be taken down as the lights go up. Maybe poppies could be bought by individuals/ church groups/businesses and the money donated to an agreed charity. Sorry to put forward an idea without the hands on backup. |

A great idea ealteacher, and we have an all year round Christmas tree situated in a brilliant position just waiting.
Maybe something at Easter and something at Harvest time too in fact something every month.
Might keep Silsden on the map after the TDF.
Maybe rename it as the festive tree or the tree of ??????? any ideas |

Thankyou Listener for your response. The idea is there now - so maybe it will be taken up by somebody or some group in the future. But thanks for saying it is a good idea. If I can find a photo of the trees I saw I will post it. |

Don't get me wrong on this subject, but the tree gets a lot of hammer when the Christmas lights are put on it, and again when they are taken down, if it is used to hold lots of things many times, it will be irreparably damaged and therefore will not be available for the lights display. I suggest there is plenty of room on the railings around the tree for any other displays. And no we at the lights have enough on so we will not be doing any of this, we also do many other things for Silsden. |

Who needs a tree when we have a bandstand? A great idea Peter - Midway, and no need to hire a cherry picker to dress it. |
