WYMetro is considering extending metro fare to cover Skipton. Hopefully this would mean our car park, (the one at the railway station rather than Toyota's) would not be a no-go-area from 7.15am. The Craven Herald is running an article on this at the moment, and are asking for comments. It might help if we did.

Promoting it is a worthy cause.

The idea is obvious to anyone with half a brain. As the problem is basically a political clash between North and West Yorkshire on the use of transport subsidies the fact it is taking so long to resolve speaks volumes.

Is this a case of the West Yorkshire authority biting the bullet and going alone or is there a deal between them and North Yorkshire? The concept would also include Harrogate. I suspect that working with South Yorkshire to include Barnsley and the like is straight forward.

With increasd users the train could be full by the time it gets to Keighley so people from there may drive to Silsden to ensure they get on meaning the car park will still be full!!!!

I don't see think that will happen. I used to get on the train in Bingley to go into work in Leeds and I have always managed to get a seat or a reasonable amount of room to stand in. From my experience of getting the train from Steeton not that many folks get on at Keighley the train starts to get really full when you get to Bingley. And similarly on the return journey the train becomes realy empty after Binlgley.

What I would like to know is Skipton going to be in a different price banding. As Steeton is in the most exepensive zone already.

I don't think extending the metro zones to skipton will solve the parking problem at all for a number of reasons:
1) Cononly station is tiny so will only ease the steeton problem by 1 or 2 cars
2) Skipton station charges for parking (not sure how much but i don't think it's cheap), Steeton doesn't, so those driving from Lancs or further up the the dales will still drive to silsden to avoid the car park charge.
3) Skipton station already fills up by 7am so there's is no space to park.

It will only benefit those who live within walking distance of Skipton Station

The point is that passengers will have a choice, many Skipton residents would choose to walk to the station, Cononley residents cannot live more than walking distance from their station.

It would make real sense to extend the zones up to Settle! Gargrave could have a nice big car park as well.
It would also make sense to electrifythat line up to Carlisle as well. It seems that in terms of greeness modern diesel locos are not as good as cars so the pressure might be going on to electrify the whole system. With windmills along the track side it would be quite self sufficient. lent of wind up on the moors to power the trains.
