This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

I adopted a rabbit from a neighbour as they were moving house (it was a last minute thing) however since adopting the rabbit 2 weeks ago I have discovered he has a skin infection and weepy eyes which are both common in rabbits but I was assured by the previous owners that he was completely healthy. Now I find myself in the difficult situation that I cannot afford vet bills sad :( would anybody be willing to adopt him again or know any organisations that would take him? Not surprisingly the previous owners are now ignoring my calls

Hi, you might be eligible to receive free vetinary treatment from the PDSA or RSPCA clinics in Bradford. Have a look on their website here:

www.pdsa.org.uk/pdsa-vet-care

Or here:

www.rspca-bradford.org.uk/clinic.html

Hope they can help

You could try ringing the Bunny Camp Sanctuary in Heaton, Bradford. They rescue unwanted bunnies. Its worth giving them a call to see if they have any room for your rabbit. If they cant take him then im sure they can give you some advice. Their number is 01274 821665 and the lady who runs it is Sonya McDonagh.

Please get a diagnosis on the rabbit as quick as pos' myxomatosis is prevalent in wild rabbits locally.

Parsley I've tried them but she isn't taking bunnys anymore sad :( RSPCA were useless and a lot of the other rehoming centres are full and didn't offer much advice after that. I've got a lady in halifax who is going to ask around her rescue centre friends to see if they can find him a place. He was a house bunny before and he was already poorly when we got him (not that we knew that)

I'm just waiting on a reply from camp nibble as they only work through emails but have heard they have a long waiting list. I feel completely useless - he's fine within himself and isnt showing any signs of being poorly but I just don't want him to go down hill.

I don't want to worry you but, on Monday we had a wild rabbit in our garden it was very docile and it's eyes were matted, so I put it back in the field nearby. Yesterday we found it dead on our drive, so get help as soon as possible. Hope it's ok.

If it's this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myxomatosis

knock it on the head, it's not nice, we had a wild rabbit with it last week in the garden.

But, I just read this bit for pet rabbits:

In pet rabbits, myxomatosis can be misdiagnosed as pasteurellosis, a bacterial infection which can be treated with antibiotics. By contrast, there is no treatment for rabbits suffering from myxomatosis

Hi I've actually just got a phone call from the previous owner who's told me that she was mistaking my bunny with her other one and he doesn't have a skin condition and that his fur does tend to get a bit matted and that I just have to brush around the eyes once a week - would of been helpful to have known this from the beginning before losing sleep over it. Thanks everyone especially midway - such a kind thing to do ThankYou! So happy that he will be able to stay with is and he is healthy happy :)

So do i Midway, and applaud your very generous offer, with you obviously knowing how high vets bills can be, well done, a credit to the village.
