This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

I think its about time the police stopped closing roads for hours on end after accidents, this never used to happen.Last night was a joke, the accident on the trunk road was at 2-20pm yet the road was closed till 7pm causing major traffic problems and horrendous journeys for people trying to get home from work.Surely this is not neccesary, I understand that fortunately no one suffered serious injuries so why close the road for nearly 5 hours!!!

i think you will find that roads are closed for a number of reasons..keeping the caariageway clear for emergency servces to get there..and a clear road to rush them to hospital..also it cant be rushed cutting people free from there vehicles...and then the scene needs to be preserved for the accident investigation team..to try and piece together what has happen before all the evidence has been lost by opening the road ...and i can see how anoying it most have been but these things have to be done...

We got caught by the traffic using the back roads. Quite funny watching all these people unused to the narrow lanes trying to get past each other and avoid scratching the sides of their cars.

As for the police and traffic control. Five hours does seem a bit long, and why both carriageways. Traffic could have been two laned along the free carriageway.
It is all down to health, safety and back covering.
Just as bad on the railways. At one time after a major crash lines would be open with 24 hours, today 24 days if you are lucky.
Mind you, does not happen at airports. Once took off past the remains of a plane that had crashed a couple of days before at Faro.

Why would they need to close Skipton end of bypass too? I agree they need to keep the bit clear so they can do everything the need but honestly 8 lanes of traffic? Was there a helicopter flying around filming the chaos for some documentary called "how to upset thousands of people in one go"?
