I think that if this bridge is as dangerous as they say it is, then they should knock it down a.s.a.p, the pathetic attempt to block it off is only making it more dangerous. Now the kids can't easily climb over the barrier due to it having been raised, they instead are climbing up onto the wall and walking along it, the wall is supposed to be a big part of the bridge's danger. This access into the park is a vital safe route to the new kids playground. It should be replaced with a new steel bridge within weeks; we can't allow Bradford to let this problem linger on for years like they did with the culvert under the green. the excuse that it is in a conservation area is just that an excuse, I am told that there was a wooden bridge in place before this latest one was put in, so they can't say it is original. What do you all think? |

So before the 'barriers' went up kids did not walk along the wall? |

I don't think that's the point, yes they most likely did walk along the wall before, so do they really need encouraging? What will BMDC do when a child does fall in? It'll cost them more in compo than it will to repair or replace the bridge. And as we live in a "where theres blame theres a claim" society that would be sure to happen. |

The only kids I have ever seen walking on the wall top; before the barriers went up, were very small ones usually holding the hand of mum or dad. It's not just a case of one of the kids falling off the top of the wall, the wall itself is supposed to be dangerous, if you look at the lower one nearest the post office you can see the cracks on the bonding, so them walking on it could cause the wall to give way and then land on top of them trapping them under the water, or knocking them out so they can't get out. |

When I was a nipper I lots of other kids walked on wall top kids always have done only way to stop them would be when bridge is replaced/repaired is to put a sloped or pointy top on. |

Seriously don't you people have anything better to do? Theres just as much chance of a kid falling off a climbing frame, the swings, monkey bars e.t.c. While were at it lets just ban kids from hights. |

Seriously, where is the proper 'official' communication from whoever has decided the bridge is unsafe and must be closed? The naff little sign has no contact details, it's not on council letterhead, it could have been posted there by literally anyone! Someone has gone to the trouble of printing it, laminating it and hole punching it, why the h*ll haven't they finished off the job and put some proper information and contact details on it? It just makes me so mad when people (who are no doubt being paid) don't do their jobs efficiently and with some thought. |

Today I saw two workmen in the water repairing the support at the park side of the bridge, hopefully they will continue the good work and we will once again be able to take the direct route through our lovely park. It would be nice if someone in the know from Bradford could let us in on the secret as to just what they are planning to do. |

the other day i saw a mother lift her 2 kids over the railings and climb over herself to take a short cut to the park not a very sane idea the bridge has been cordened off for some time now surely everyone knows its been deemed unsafe |

This is a lot of fuss about the obvious.
to prevent the bridge being used it needs to be filled in with barbed wire and the parapets of the wall covered in same.
Alternatively they could fix it. With the present dry weather not too difficult. |

o.k then wahiba you put barbed wire on the top and we will let you deal with the casualties! i ignor the barriors evryone does but if you put barb wire on it people will just walk on the wall MORE to get over it, then there is more danger of someone falling into the beck!!!!!!! |

My comments were what is known as 'irony'
It was pointing out that the solution to a stupid situation is a stupid solution.
For what is it worth the present 'barrier' might as well be signs to anyone; please cross me.
In other words, do a job properly but do not insult us by stupid temporary barriers.
Fixing it s straight forward. Actually, I doubt if it really unsafe. If it were really bad they would have dismantled it. It looks like back covering to me; not that that solution is much cover.
Anyhow, if it did break with someone on it what would happen. A small drop, shallow slope, not exactly a canyon it will fall into. |

i agree with you on that wahiba, if it was so DANGEROUS/UNSAFE they would have taken it down. Asual it all comes back to Bradofrd council not giving a micky about Silsden (sorry about the language)
(i am on silsden youth council by the way) |

Has anyone considered that it might be the town council that is responsible for the bridge ? Before everyone runs down there with a stick of dynamite to blow it up lets make sure who is going to pay for it !! |

I don't care who has resposiblility for keeping the bridge in good repair, all I know is I haven't been able to use it since April. So come on Silsden Town Council GET IT SORTED.
Knock it down, repair it, put some stepping stones in... GET IT SORTED. |
