I got scammed at that ATM last Thursday - some sort of device that stopped the card ejecting - thought it was just a fault with the machine but on reporting it to the bank found out that my account had had £300 withdrawn at the co-op a few minutes later. The bank did return the money a couple of days after - but it took about an hour on the phone to about 8 different call centre personel sad :(

On Wednesday night the guy in front of me said it had swallowed his card. The machine was trying to spit it back out again and when I looked the slot moved as it tried to spit the card out, I removed the slot and found the camera devise! We rang the police and they took them away! Just beware!!!

partygirl, what did the police take away, the device or the people who put it there? if it was the people what did they look like?I used it on Monday and did not have a problem but I am worried now that there might have been more than one device on it

They took the fake slot that had been placed where you put your card and also the camera that was placed above the keypad

Can I ask the person who had money taken out, what came up on the statement?
I use that cash machine all the time and some money's come out of my account but I don't recognise who's taken it on my statement.

The card was used about 15 minutes later at the co-op ATM - on the statement it just appeared as a normal ATM withdrawal. But they were quick, I hadn't even had chance to get home, phone the bank and advise them that the card had been retained. All happened in less than 15 minutes. Hopefully with the CCTV at the Co-op they'll be able to get a good picture of the culprit.

is there no cctv at the bank or on kirkgate which might have picked something up?Presume co-op have had time to check theirs by now, any joy in finding who it was, they know the date and the time to within 15mins so not a long job to check it.Perhaps everyone should stop using it or the bank should close it put an out of order note on it

Hi Dogcatcher

I personally went to the Co-op the same night my card got scammed and requested that they kept the copy of the video in the entrance for that night. They contacted me the day after to confirm the details but for obvious reasons they cannot provide me a copy of the footage. The details of this were passed to the fraud department at my bank the following morning - if they don't want to investigate this themselves then this is up to them.
