IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Don't think there is but why don't you start one? I bet you would get quite a bit of interest if you advertised it well. I'd be interested.

You could advertise it via a thread on this forum in the announcements, and also ask if the coffee shops or some of the other businesses in town may put u posters, especially one of the coffee shops or pubs if you had your club meeting there.

I would be interested in joining too

Several months ago on the Silsden net I asked about book clubs and no one seemed interested.
Maybe the BMDC Library service could have useful advice how to start one.
I know that in one of the N.Yorks villages there is a good one where a memmber has arranged to borrow a set of books for the group. BMDC may operate differewntly.

I just put "start a book club" into google and it brought up loads of sites one is called my-bookclub.com
there is a link to starting one from the bbc website as well.I suppose if the library won't supply the books, it will be quite expensive as presumably everyone reads the same book and then discusses it and moves on to the next one a week or two later so might be buying a couple of books a month.
Bradfor libraries also have a website, there could be some info on there

Hi, maybe after the bank holiday a few of us could get together and sort something. It may be too much for 1 person to sort, with work / family commitments. I'm happy to meet up sometime, possibly one evening in the pub??

Can anyone meet up, say next Weds night (16/5) at 7:00 in the Punch? If so, please respond here and I'll see you then. I'll be the one with the pink carnation, haha.

Thursday is fine with me, especially since Weds is music night in the Punch, I obviously hadn't realised! As I don't know if anyone else is interested you say which Thurs you want to meet and what time. Happy to change venue too if needed.

The Punch is fine with me. I can't make this Thursday but the following Thursday (24) is fine. Is that OK with you? Say 7 pm. And anyone else who's interested too.

That's fine, a week on Thursday, 24th May 7:00 in the Punch. If we continue to post any future meetings while getting this off the ground we should hopefully capture anyone who can't make that night.

It would be nice if anyone who's interested in coming would put their real names on the messages. Unless there is some good reason why they'd rather just leave their user name. If you prefer to just use your user name on here, please will you email me at elemal55@talktalk.net. Without sounding funny, I'd much rather have an idea of who I'm going to meet.

I can understand someone not wanting to make their real name public on the forum. I'm quite happy to collect names of people that are interested in starting a book club and email them out to those that are interested.

If you want to email me with your email address, and name, I will do a round robin email with the date and time of the first book club meeting.

Email - peter@silsden.net
Subject - BOOKCLUB
Your name
Preferred date, time and location to meet

Thanks to everyone who said they were unable to make the meeting last night. As there were only 2 people who came we have decided to have another meeting, in the Punch one weekday evening. Can anyone who is still intersted in getting this off the ground please post with details of when they could come to another meeting. Alternatively you can ring me on 07427533785. Once this is decided we may put a poster in the library to generate more interest. It would be such a shame if all the interest so far comes to nothing.

Any day other than Thursdays are generally good for me, though I do have meetings at short notice, so would only be able to confirm 24 hours before.

Thanks.
