People now rely on cars for 80% of ALL journeys.
Praise be the great god car, and stuff pedestrians. |

one of the resons i was happy we got a house in silsden (instead of steeton/cross hills/eastburn/glusburn/sutton [areas we were looking for houses in]) was because i didnt need to take the car to get to the shops i constantly see the car parks fairly full and other than if you have come from somewere else and are just poping to say co op on the way home i dont know why everyone doesnt walk its not like silsden is that big that you cant walk from just about every house in the village |

Couldn't agree more. Also the lazy b*stards who can't be a*sed to park in the co-op car park to use the cash point and instead park on the double yellows need a lesson in being considerate to others.
(obviously people who are disabled or have difficulty getting about are excluded from my general loathing of lazy idiots, before anyone accuses me of discrimination. I only discrimintate against lazy idiots.) |

Agreed jonno if you have problems walking you are exempt but everyone else should walk its not like its far the only time ive used the car to go into the village is the occasional sunday when ive stopped at the bank for cash on the way to somewhere else(parked in the bays by the post office and spun the car around so pointing with the flow of traffic) |

Same reason we like Silsden, one can walk to the shops, and the chippy, and some decent eating and drinking spots.
Agree about the cars, but now I will state something very un PC.
Why should anyone disabled have the right to inconvenience the rest of us? Designated parking bays fine, but obstructing traffic by parking on double yellow lines? |

i agree with double yellow lines part but as far as im aware i think its legal for disabled people to park on them for a short time i could be wrong though its a while since a read a highway code book |

Well, that is a fairly controversial view wahiba and I think you're probably just playing devils advocate there, but it's an interesting point.
I don't think a disabled badge entitles anyone to park on double yellow lines in an irresponsible way that severely impedes or obstructs traffic. And I'm fairly sure they can only park for short periods of time in restricted areas, so the inconvenience should be minimum.
Looking at Silsden in particular I'll be even more controversial and say the car parks are all so close to the main street that there really should be no excuse for ANYONE to park on the street. (in theory, in practise I do park next to the post office to post my letters when I'm on my way to work and so forth.) |

i think its the saltaire syndrom you have got to drive from one shop to another plus were all yorkshire folk so dont want to fork out for parking (were not tight just frugal) |
