Being a city lad, I'm wondering if anyone can help me?

But, why are some sheep near Skipton dyed orange?

Alan you are showing your true nature now!
I have not personally seen these sheep of which you speak, so I might be on the wrong track, but I suspect the orange has got on them from the dye container the tup (or Ram to you offcumbdens) has tied under his belly, everytime he services a sheep; he leaves a tell tale mark on the sheeps back so the farmer knows which sheep have mated.

'grandad' not being such an expert with mating with sheep as you, I would normally bow to your superior experience, but try this link: -

Alan, having just watched the utube clip, I have to admit my explaination for the colour of these sheep was way off the mark. I have never before seen sheep like these.

Read it thanks 'tetleydrinker'.

Being an ex city lad I was a bit concerned as to why the farmer would want "hi viz" sheep happy :)

I can't remember what breed they are but they are a rare breed and they are died orange to prevent them being nivked by sheep rustlers.
