This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Good news.I hear the Government have postponed all planned closures.

Bad news.Only postponed until after the local council elections in May as they think it may impact on who people vote for!!!!!!

<snip> Good news.I hear the Government have postponed all planned closures </snip>

Not true I'm afraid. It is only for the short period leading up to the local elections.

Go to the meeting. www.silsden.net/town_council/docs_07/post_office_ilkley_poster.pdf

Was just highlighting the consultations will not take place until after the election to protect the Labour vote.Didnt want to suggest closures will not happen.
The meeting(s) are still very much important

Part of the governments plan to make Post Office's obsolete is to encourage people to pay for car tax online. My renewal came yesterday and with a load of information telling the benefits of using this new way.
However at the bottom it says if I have just renewed my insurance they wont have the details so can I take it to the Post Office .
I and I hope everyone else will be using the Post Office whatever Brown wants me to do.

It ain't the service it's the fact that they don't really have the experience for such as licences, couldn't get one there this year 'cos she couldn't find the address!

The place to by that sort of thing HAS GOT to be post offices!

Why should the Post Office have priority for dispensing services other than mail over other businesses? The only reason the PO deals with these things is because they originate from government and governments used the PO as a government agency. In many cases the PO is not necessarily the best place.

Try buying a TV livence at the Co-op with an unusal address 'wahiba' and then tell me if you have the same opinion!

The point is that the PO SHOULD be a government agency in my opinion and provide a SERVICE and not a profit. These are the people who should have the experience for lots of things like TV licences etc.

Wonder how complaints there would be if OAP's had to queue up in the Co-op for their pension happy :)
