IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. You can buy record player that hook up to your PC or laptop and they save as digital music files you can then "burn" them to CD. These record player cost from about £40 so if you plan to do your whole record collection it would most likely be cheaper to buy a player and of course you can use your PC as a pre-amp and speaker system. I am sure there would be places who would do this for you but I haven't seen any advertised anywhere |

Maplin sells various record decks that connect via a USB to a PC. They are also available from other places as well. Maybe even Argos and Tesco. If using a record deck you will need to run it through an amplifier into the audio input of the computer. A deck cannot be connected directly to a PC audio input. Again Maplin actually sell a good range of stylii for older decks. I bought a pre-amp from Maplin and a new Stylus for my old Technics deck and have transferred a few vinyls to digital. You really need an audio programme. There is a pretty good freebe around. This allows you to break up the single recording into the individual tracks, convert them to mp3 etc. and save them with the right name. The programme will also help remove excessive scratches and hum. Not to difficult and once you have a set up for you gear it generally works well for any further recordings. Some people actually like to leave the sound original as straight off the vinyl, clicks and all. Have fun. |

I can't remember where we got ours from, it came with audio editing software, it is very easy to use,I ma a sound engineer by training but my other half has no problems using the software. I have never tried to play it via our PC or laptop as I have just downloaded all our vinyl directly to the our hard drive. You do have to watch out as you need to be careful with the volume at which you record the tracks, or the signal to noise ratio, as if you are not careful you can either have it too quite and you can hardly hear it or too loud and it becomes distorted. If it is just one or two albums maybe someone would be kind enough to help you out without having to go the expense of buying a deck and software. |

Hi Many thanks for the replies, the problem is I only want to copy one old Album, so don't really want to go to the expense of buying a USB turntable etc. Would appreciate it if anyone would be willing to do a copy for me. More than willing to pay. |
