.......is silsden like no where you have ever been? i have travelled all over this great country of ours and no where have i come accross a place like cobbydale. We have all kinds of peoples both chavs and posh, right wing and liberal, fat and thin, black and.......oh no thats right silsdeners are so small minded (alot of them anyway) that if anyone non white dared to live here they would be sent to coventry anyway!!! Cobbydale will always be in my heart........except maybe for the only remaining cafe that does the worst tasting hot sandwiches i have ever had the misfortune of eating.......but my god some of the residents really could do with a lesson in acceptance and compassion. DONT YA THINK??????????????? |

I was making a point. Ranting. Sounding off. Voicing my opinion. Not really too difficult to understand is it.........or maybe it is. What i am saying is i love silsden but it is so infuriating sometimes. The people have such a sense of community as long as your not an offcumd'en I bet even the BNP wouldnt do well unless they were cobbydalers! |

I dont agree with you silsdenbum at all,I am an offcumden,been here 6 years and have been accepted just fine by most locals,them that dont like me just dont like me not where Im from.Silsdens grand and you should go live in one of your other wonderful places if you cant get on with people here. |

Bizaar Post? Nobody has to accept anybody, surely it is up to each individual who they speak to or befriend? I personally wont be drinking with smackheads and people who wear tweed hats. But also i wont be allowing anyone to tell me that i have to. It's not your possition to point out that anyone is wrong or narrow minded. For the record, acceptance will be not granted by me for the following:- 1. Rugby being as good as football. 2. Religion being anything more than a good story. 3. People talking to the dead. 4. The made up accent that some gay people use. 5. People that dont wave at me when i give way. (as featured on facebook) 6. Oh this could go on all day because im a narrow minded Silsden lad, get my tea on wife, ive got to go to the pub...... |

I was asking for a direct email for silsdenbum to give me his "real name" and email which when he/she signed up was false. I wasn't asking for it to be made public. If there is no accountablity for silsdenbum's post I may just ban the name and delete the thread. |

If you are entitled to vote then at some point you must have previously given your name BUT your vote is secret. If you follow that then being able to post on this forum follows the same principle. this post has been edited 1 time(s) Silsden is no different to anywhere else. When one is a newcomer certain points stand out. When one lives in an area for some time one becomes used to that area. Move somewhere else and it seems different, when in fact the differences are probably very small. Return from whence one came after a period of time and the old place usually looks worse and one is glad one left. By now one is of course used to the new place. It is a sad fact of life that people tend to extenuate the negative over the positive, but that is the same the whole world over. If the grass did not look better on the other side of the fence they would not be queuing up at Calais to enter the 'green and pleasnat land' or 'dump' depending upon ones point of view. Having lived abroad one learns what a 'dump' is, and it is not here. |

Silsdenbum I may not like what you say but I will defend your right to say it till the end having said that I have friends who live or have lived in Silsden who as you put it were none white they were accepted by Silsdeners straight away, go in the punch there is a off cum dun (as you put it)who is the landlady who is known and loved bu all Silsdener young and old FACT. I do accept there are strong BNP views held in Silsden but that is because of what this tight knit little town has seen happen in Keighley over the years with with the sheer volume of Pakistan people being allowed in who just do not accept our way of life, I was in Asda the other day two asian women and about six kids all speaking in there own tongue I really felt like saying for gods sake learn English (they soon learn English when its benefit handing out time though) |

I was in the punch today and had the missfortune of having to listen to a lad sing an extremely racist song while pretending to be hitler.I was very offended by the song knowing the landlady is not white English but others including the landlord seemed to find it very funny. |

There is nothing wrong with Silsden or the cobbydalers. Once opon a time long ago we did have the attitude you describe but not any more. There are more offcumdens than there are Cobbydalers. And as for the accent....its an accent. Have you ever thought that it is your attitude that stop people talking to you, whereever they are from!! |
