IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

'pop up' blocker on google tool bar does the trick for me.don't know how i got it but it works.just sits there doing it's job, just like it says on the tin. now,no doubt some 'peter'type boffin in an anorak might give you a more complicated reason for your problem!!happy :)

But bobber I'll ask again 'what did you know' because you didn't know from your first post on this thread, you said your popup blocker stops popups so perhaps you didn't even see the problem? laugh :D

come on bobber...a bit harsh! Peter is running a damn good community website, not easy. I don't know him at all, but to call him a nerd and suggest that the world's problems have anything to do with it (none of us can do much about them)...too much. It's easy to be negative about things, at least he solved the problem, and continues to do a great job for all of us who use this site regularly.

bobber, no offence taken and I don't wear an anorak this time of yearhappy :) I just wondered how you "you knew" it was a problem on the server - doesn't matter because it is fixed now (I hope). If anyone experiences unwanted popups it could be caused by malware on YOUR computer. Not all antivirus and anti-malware programs are created equal and none of them are perfect.

I have found this anti-malware which seems to find a few nasties which others miss and best of all it's free

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.41

thanks peter, i love you (in a manly sort of way)shocked 8O by the way, for anyone else reading.watch out for a new bit of s**t on the go at the moment, called 'personnal antivirus'.it makes you think it's trying to help you stop trojan/malware etc.and asks you to download it's antivirus programme. DON'T!!!!. my wife got it while looking for rag rug making on the tinternet.run your own scan or download 'spyware doctor'. DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT'S PROGRAMME!!!!!!!

It is not on the server but could be caused by malware on your computer download and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.41 and see what it finds.

carliol, thanks for the feedback. As I said earlier not all anti-malware programs are created equal and you may need several to sort out a problem. The nice thing about malwarebytes is it's easy to use and runs ok with other virus/malware checkers and it's free.

Can you do me a favour and let me know if your pc is still free from popups in a few days time. Thanks, Peter
