This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

After an absence of a few years I recently acquired a bike. Now the canal is fine and getting the morning paper at Tescos Crossflats shop is a nice 12 mile round trip.

Just wondered about any other routes round and about, tarmac or off road when not muddy.

Bradford have produced a map with all! the cycle route in their area on it, the only problem with it is that they forgot to include Silsden on the map so good luck.

My route starts in Silsden centre and heads over cringles to addingham roundabout, turn left up to skipton, and back to silsden along the A629. Not a great route at peak traffic times but almost 16 miles round trip and a big climb at the start to get the heart rate up.

A good 20 mile road circuit with some nice hills.
Up Howden Road, straight on past the cemetery and over 'Robin Hood' towards Riddlesden. Drop down into East Morton and turn left at the school past the Busfeild Arms (mis-spelt correctly). Big climb up the 'Alma' hill & past Dick Hudson's pub and 3 reservoirs. Turn left at the T-junction onto Moor Road, follow this for approx 8 miles, past the Hermit Inn, and drop down past the Cow and Calf (rocks and pub) into Ilkley. Turn left towards Addingham on the main road for about 1 1/2 mile then turn left up Cocking Lane which goes past Brown Bank caravan site & emerges at the top of Bolton Road. With a nice downhill finish back into Silsden.

Another suggestion for a short ride: Skipton Road to Bradley & Skipton, then Carleton Road to Cononley, Cross Hills, Sutton & Steeton. About 16 miles - a good hour's ride.

I would be interested in meeting up with anyone who fancies an evening road ride of about 90 minutes on a weekday evening, now that the clocks have changed. I ride about 15mph average & enjoy the hills on the back roads rather than the main roads. Anyone interested?

I do, every one of the rascals should have a registration plate, and if they wear lycra they should pay at least £100 per year road tax!! wink ;)

I will just ignore the last few posts....

Cyclist please keep posting your routes around Silsden and perhaps I can make a page of them, just like the "walks around Silsden"

Here's another suggestion, it's about 12 miles with a bit of off-road.
Up Howden Road, through Brunthwaite past the golf club and up the 'murder mile'. Turn right at the top & follow the concrete path past the 'Doubler Stones' and past Black Pots farm into Rivock Edge plantation. Take the track through it which comes out in a field near the tv mast on the top road to Riddlesden. Cross the field bearing left, through the gate and take the track down to the road. Turn left on the road till you reach Bensons mobile home park and go left at the crossroads up Ilkley Road. This is a long drag upwards which takes you to the twin masts of Keighley Gate. Turn left down the track which comes out in Ilkley. Back towards Addingham on the main road then up Cocking Lane past Brown Bank caravan site and back into Silsden.
By the way, most of the cyclists I know DO pay road tax. While they are on their bikes they are doing less damage to the roads than in their cars. I suppose my 7 year old niece could be classed as a tax dodger but I'm sure she'd pay some money from her sweets/comic allowance to pay for a cycle tax.

Have a look at this site. You can make maps of your route and share with others.

www.mapmyrun.com/create

Before starting have a look at "map setting" ticking the follow roads makes mapping the route much easier.

Enjoy and please post your routes.
