Topic : School Closure... Again |
|
| Mr Bumble |
Ok, so our kids told us there was a problem with the boiler and that we have to check in the morning if the school is closed (actually i've changed my mind it's not ok). But to go to the co-op, kwarp, quorp or whatever else we call it to find a hand written bit of paper at every checkout telling parents not to take kids to school tomorrow is apalling. Is that the only communication we get? 3 days out of the last 6 we've had to take kids home again - what about our jobs??? Can you tell i'm a little annoyed? |

Mr Bumble why not send the school a bill for your lost time of work they will then think again |

Perhaps a suggestion would be for all school staff to use their annual leave days or take unpaid leave for these days missed like other businesses and workplaces have done. |

you are right - it's a joke - i have a small business, i can't afford for a third of my workforce to be off because the school isn't open. How am i supposed to get staff at such short notice? I am not allowed to discriminate against parents (and rightly so) but this gets on my nerves. Basically, i am going to have to give up my one day off this week and go into work if the school closes. I know it isn't the school's fault that their boiler is down, but i can get a gas engineer out at short notice (and to work late if needs be) - why can't they? ggggrrrrrr |

Which school? |

When I were at infant school classroom heat came from this cast iron stove that used to get red hot. The school never closed in the winter. The heating never failed. So instead of central boilers that break down demand cast iron coke stoves be placed in every classroom By the way, no one was ever burnt by it. There was a guard around it. For the record I walked about a mile to school and at least two teachers had cross country bus trips. We did not mind if the head was late, right old b---r he was. They were rarely late though. This was East Kent and in the 1950s the snows were much heavier than anything seen this year. It used to be dumped regularly on us from the continental mass. (note: there was a book out recently on bad weather and the front cover had a picture of a bus in the snow. Not obvious, but JG and FN were Canterbury registrations. It was an East Kent Road Car company bus) |

Still trying to find out which school everyone is talking about!! |
|
| Mr Bumble |
this post has been edited 1 time(s) Sorry 'alan' I forget to mention that bit in my angry rant. It's Hothfield Street. |

Perhaps you should devise a way that parents could be told Mr Bumble. The head of Hothfield is very amenable to common-sense ideas |

The school has a website and there is a notice on the opening page... www.hothfield.ngfl.ac.uk/HOLDING/WELCOME.html Due to severe problems with our boilers Hothfield Junior School will be CLOSED TO ALL PUPILS on Tuesday 10th February. Staff only to attend. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Mrs Ruth Leech - Head teacher Unfortuneately the red background to the message makes the message difficult to spot. ![]() |

It was also announced on several radio stations this morning. |

I also believe that governors gave up their time to phone parents to inform them of the situation. |

On the school website today (and easier to read - white text on red background) Boiler up and running but NOT at full capacity. SCHOOL OPEN (Please come well wrapped up) Mrs Leech Headteacher |
