This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Its been in the news again this week about Keighley/Ilkley/Silsden formimg a new council. Whats peoples views.
Im sure we all suspect that our area do not get back what we pay to be part of Bradford.
During a radio interview the Labour leader of Bradford Council spoke out against it. His chief point was regarding Saltaire roundabout which would not be improved without "our" money so anyone from round here would be stuck in traffic whenever we travel that way.
So there it is from the horses mouth. We subsidise the rest of Bradford.

Since the Torys flogged off most of the best bits of Bradford council to their mates, buses, houses, water, education there is not a lot left.

Get the councils smaller and then they could flog off the parks and playing fields too.

So if you want Serco Silsden or Crapita Silsden then let us get smaller and privatised.

I would be happy for a Keighley, Silsden, Ilkley combination (doubt if Ilkley would though!!) so long as the council could provide services as required and not just those politicians want us to have, ie the scraps.

Bradford Met. doesn't work for anywhere other than Bradford City.

I believe that town and parish council should contact local finances. They are far easier to control, no silly automated call systems etc.

I dont think Bradford Council ever ran the buses around here and they made such a cock up of education it had to be taken off them and the houses they ran were all in a poor state.

Once again is the ideal that Silsden should go in with Keighley. The idea is as abhorrent to me as England run from Berlin. The only sensible soloution would be a return to the Old UDC, Silsden running Silsden, otherwise we would become a poor relation of Keighley rather than a poor relation of Bradford. As a councillor said many decades ago when Keighley tried to annex Silsden, they only wanted to stop paying rates for the Golf club.

Its not just Keighley, it Ilkley and its neighbouring towns, the whole spread would be more rural

It's true, all trade along the Aire valley produces taxes that get sucked into Bradfords gross overinflated benefits bill. Without cash from our, lets call annex, Bradford would rot uncontrollably, it's a dead city, no extensive internal trade like Leeds or Manchester, any improvements have proved time and time again to be a waste.

Instead of trying for a Keighley, Ilkley and Craven council, I would vouch for complete secession from West Yorkshire and ask North Yorkshire borders to be pulled over our Conservative Zones.

Did we have those giant potholes all over the place when under Silsden UDC ? My dad worked for the UDC as a Road roller driver we had our own road works team back then. Bradford Met dont seem to have one judging by the state of the roads in Silsden.
