This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Essentially this letter received is to announce the refurbishment of the town hall. Note the signatures!

silsden.net/forum/forumpics/WardC_letter_07_2013.pdf

Councillors Kelly and Mallinson have not attended a Silsden Town Council meeting since before the last local elections apart from a planning meeting which involved the future of the town hall.

It's not what has been written, BUT ALL the things which have been left out of the letter which annoys me. angry

I'll second that Peter! The phrase "We are her to make planning decisions for you" appears again. It is my opinion that a ward councillor is here to serve the community, which involves getting out there and finding out what the community wants, not the other way round.

Apart from election posters, I have never seen this Kelly bloke!

.......... and another thing which annoyed me about this letter.......angryangryangry

From the letter to all Silsden residents silsden.net/forum/forumpics/WardC_letter_07_2013.pdf

<quote>
We are disappointed that the Silsden Town Council are not supporting this project and they have been fighting the progress that is required to ensure that Silsden continues to prosper, for everyone.<end quote>

I was there at the planning meeting and that is NOT the reason the council or I myself objected to the disability ramp at the town hall..... we objected on the grounds of safety.

From the Keighley News
Disability ramp at Silsden town hall backed
6:20pm Thursday 20th June 2013

Proposals to install a disability access ramp at the front entrance to Silsden Town Hall have been approved.

The application, which also includes replacing a set of fire escape stairs at the back of the building, was initially debated by Keighley & Shipley Area Planning Panel last month.

But it was deferred after Bradford planners conceded they had not followed their own rules. Objectors successfully proved the application did not contain details needed to permit this type of change to a prominent building within a conservation area.

Proposals were considered by the planning panel again yesterday and unanimously approved by members.

Planning officer Martyn Burke said: “The ramp is not ideal given the site considerations, but it does provide more community access to the building than we’ve had in the past.”

The plans were opposed by councillors Adrian Naylor and Michael O’Dwyer, and also by resident Peter Ford.

They said they did not object to the principle of more disabled access, but argued the restricted space available for the ramp would endanger pedestrians on the pavement and zebra crossing outside the hall.

BTW Councillor Mallinson did not attend the planning meeting!!

They also seem to have forgotten the fact that the budget was increased to £400,000, prime assets in Silsden are being sold to fund it and the fact that BMDC has not maintained the Town Hall for years, necessitating urgent repairs now.
