I have heard that Procters,(the builders who carried out the canal towpath improvements when they built on the gasworks site) have gone out of business. I'm sure others will join me in thanking them for the work done. It would have been good if they had put the traffic calming measures shown at the planning stage in place on Hainsworth Rd before their demise. The footpaths at the entrance to the houses are a mess toosad :(

It would be nice if the rest of the towpaths out of Silsden could be improved. After wet weather they get too muddy to be fit to use. For example, if the path as far as Low Holden was done, it would link up with the improved path to Riddlesden.

here here. we have often given up trying to walk the towpath as it does get very muddy between brunthwaite bridge and riddlesden. Why do other areas get improvements carried out and silsden never does? who is respnsible for the towpath is it the council or waterways? I think I will write to them

Waterways.

You've just hit the nail on the head I would suggest ginjo! Other areas get the work done because locals gripe and write to them..........

I think there is a big plan for all canal paths to be improved to the state where they can be used for cycling and walking.
Of course someone has to pay, and I thought it was coming out of the lottery money?
The name Sustrans comes to mind.

I have a reply from british waterways regarding the state of towpath.Basically they do not have any statutory duty to provide public access to the towpath and therefore they recieve no funding to maintain towpaths in their ownership.Despite this, they try to facilitate permissive access routes on their waterways for a range of users through the development of partnerships with local authorities such as bradford council who are keen to facilitate cycle greenways where local users demonstrate a need.Apparantly cycling on the towpath north of Riddlesden is not permitted!! However british waterways are looking to work with bradford, craven north yorks and sustrans to facilitate a continuation of the greenway route all the way to gargrave, this will be costly and take time. Thats it more or less.
