Just been told that a two storey building is to go up as well as a car park.Funny that now the election is over we have no comments from our new councilor or his agent, even though they know more about it than the rest of us. |

Do you know if this is temporary or permanent? And whereabouts - surely not on the 'playing fields' themselves? Sounds really worrying. Where is this news coming from? |

I can't envisage where they would be built, unless they would replace the two currently derelict buildings. I wouldn't have thought there was enough space for a car park. |

Seems like a good idea to me. The bowling lot park on the grass as near to the bowling green as possible, obviously they don't like to walk anywhere. The rugby crowd are not much better and they are supposed to be fit and healthy!
The buildings are used but not fit for purpose, time to get the sledgehammers out and build something which everyone can use.
One very big drawback in all of this, where is the money coming from? I think this is but a dream Victor. |

The 'Playing Fields' were given to the people of Silsden (and mostly fund-raised by them) for the purpose of leisure, not for the purpose of parking cars by folks who can't be bothered to walk.
The pavilion has been allowed to become derelict and disused - it didn't have to be that way. It could be a good-looking building again.
Any swallowing up of the playing fields should be opposed. |

common sense would suggest that the current rugby changing rooms would be revamped or rebuilt and the parking would be in the area above these buildings on the area of grass behind the changing rooms up to the top road no playing fields affected |

I have been told that the old changong rooms are to go and a car park in its place, the old pavilion is to go and a new two storey building to be built. This would be to replace what had been taken down.I hope you could tell us all if there is any truth in what I have been told.In no way am I trying to stir things up,I would just like to know,in fact I would be for any improvement to the park it's a mess. |

I had a look on recent planning applications but could not see anything.I think in principle it is a good idea, the old buildings are an eyesore and would not be missed.New changing rooms and maybe a tearoom would be nice or a kiosk selling refreshments |

Hi Skippy.
the bowlers are quoting you as the person who has put this plan to them? two storey building and removing a path way and flower beds to build it, and car park on the grass by the Fletcher Ave entrance. Did you suggest this to them? |

I went to the council meeting last night and the subject was on the agenda.
There is no sinister plot and nothing is decided. The Mayor managed to get the bowlers, rugby and football groups together and they agreed some common facilities would be a good idea. The idea has now been put to an architect to come up with some ideas (and only ideas) on what would be possible with a rough ideas as to the likely cost.
It may be that the existing facilities are revamped. It may be that it is a multipurpose building which could be used for lots of groups.
One thing is sure, the pavilion cannot be used at the moment and something needs to be done. The rugby changing rooms is a primitive hut, and the bowling hut was probably a temporary measure many, many, years ago.
From the Town Survey I know a lot of people would like improvements to be made around the bowling green area.
Once the architect comes back with a few plans, ideas AND costs we can all decided what we would like and what is possible, and then go about raising the money to make it happen.
There will be full consultation with all of us, after all it's our park. |

Why all the cloak and dagger!! Three groups in one building could work, but why? Why destory three buildings, flower beds, pathways and shrubs? Why not speand money raised on making the buildings we have better.
AND WHY do we need a car park on green belt land? |

Magic, where has anyone said anything about detroying anything, building a car park or anything else? There was a strong local opinion, from the survey, that the park should be improved. At the moment this is an ideas gathering exercise.
What you see above is all there is to it at the moment - wait to we all know a bit more.

hi Peter.
All the info has come from bowling, we have all been told that the plan was to knock down buildings, build on top of the flower beds and put a car park in the park. |

Well that's one plan, and maybe how it might have been sold. At the council meeting last week there were no plans, it really is out to the architect for ideas and costing of those ideas. As I said previously, the park belongs to the people of Silsden and we will be consulted.
Once we have the ideas and costs, and everyone agrees, then we will know the nature of the beast and make it happen. |
