Why are Bradford allowed to endanger the lives of our children in the Town Hall?
Last night (Friday) whilst the majorettes were upstairs practising the emergency escape doors were locked shut, there wasn't any sign of the caretaker or other responsible person there in charge of evacuation had it been required!
This state of affairs must not be allowed to continue, Mallinson and his mob are playing fast and loose with the lives of our children.

As a user of the fabulous revamped town hall I can only say there has been a caretaker all week and all the doors have been unlocked when we have been there. Not only do the rooms look amazing, the facilities which we use are excellent. The paintwork looks clean and the library seems to be busier than ever, and speaking to them this morning that is what the feedback is. We also use the kitchen and the new facilities have been brought into the 21st century, maybe we should get behind this venture instead of continually knocking it.

Phill you seem to have not read the post properly no one is saying that we don't have one of the finest town hall in the area, what he is saying is that it is naughty to have the fire doors locked when people are in the building,I was a fire officer for 30yrs and if I ever came accros something like I would have closed them down until they complied with the regs

Sorry Floyd, have been reading the very negative posts about the town hall in previous posts, so wanted to address that from someone who uses it 4/5 days a week.

Anything which improves facilities in our town deserves to be supported, and politics should not be coming into this issue. If something relating to safety is involved, then someone from the council should tell those responsible to deal with it, and I'm sure it will be.
Time to see the positives in the improvements to the town hall...the knockers have had their say for long enough....it's here now, let's be happy, and take into account the views of the customers, that's what counts. happy :)

Grandad, are you sure of your facts? Last time I looked at the emergency exits the doors were alarmed and the doors secured with a pushbar ie there was no requirement for a lock on these doors.

When it was done for political reasons you can not look beyond politics. And Phil the paintwork will look nice lets wait and see if its durable and if the council maintain it.

wheelchairs down the side of the town hall? no way that has always been a pee stop between the lion and the punch (due to the fact we have no public toilets open at night. The town hall looks great so all the knockers will have to find some thing else to moan about hahaha

I am -pleased that you are so happy with the Town Hall, you can walk in, look in all the rooms and take part in any functions. It is thanks to us "moaners" that the Town Hall has had this facelift, but we still cannot get in to admire it. The real reason that these alterations came about was to make the Town Hall disabled compliant. b There has been no mention of when the ramp will built so that a disabled person can enter the building.

Peter, I am only passing on that which I was told, they tried; but could not get the doors to open! The room was so hot they wanted to get some fresh air in. what use is an emergency door if opening it is so difficult that the first person there can't get it open?, And we were told that there would always be a caretaker in the building whenever it was open! where was he/she on Friday night, when they went to find him?
All you people who call us moaners must take off your rose coloured glasses and see the whole truth, this building is not fit for purpose it is a death trap waiting to spring, At one of the steering meetings I asked, "The rules you have set; say only two disabled people are allowed upstairs at any one time, the fully disabled toilets are upstairs, if there is anybody downstairs who is disabled and needs to use the toilet, does one of the people upstairs have to come down before the one downstairs can go up? The answer I got was, "Oh we haven't thought of that!" they then went on to talk about the colour of the paint, my question was not even in the minutes of the meeting.
They still have not answered all of the safety questions about the running of this death trap!

Also in the steering group minutes that it would not be suitable for wheelchair users because of the fire regulations! Total waste of money.

The doors are indeed alarmed, I went round and checked and opened them all on Saturday to check, a slight push and they opened ok.

THE STATEMENT RECEIVED FROM BRAD MET - 10 Dec 2013

The caretaker was on-site in accordance with the agreement made for all lettings until the new year.

The three fire doors are not padlocked.

The fire exit next to the kitchen was not unlocked. Although no one was using the kitchen and there is another fire door closer to the rooms where the activities were taking place the caretaker on duty should have opened the final exit door next to the kitchen. This door must be locked in the open position when any one is in any part of the building as this is the fire route not the door adjacent to the Dining Room. This has been discussed with the Halls Manager to prevent reoccurrence.

The building is still operating under the 2012 General Emergency Evacuation Plan a copy of which is attached as the fire exits have not changed and it is a generic GEEP. This will be updated and a revised version will be released in due course to reflect the physical situation at Silsden Town Hall once the ramp is built, and key holders are asked to take over some responsibilities early in the new year.

Peter, that evacuation plan tells us nothing, there are too many XXXXX's, where is the reception desk, where is the assembly point, plus many other questions.
Like has anybody actually done an emergence evacuation, to test the plan?

In other words if you are a keyholder and responsible for the building security you will have signed the existing GEEP plan and will be operating the building under that plan until a new agreement is availble (when the ramp is built).

Just to be nosey I looked at the steel gate which forms part of the fire escape route, they have put a concrete post near to the back of it but it still will not ensure the route is kept clear at all times, there are also some wheelie bins just at the side of it.

I read that the Library in the Town Hall will be available for people to use when there are no staff present, I.E. they will scan and book there books in and out themselves!
Therefore it is an open invitation to any and all to walk in and steal any books that takes their fancy, Great, the Police keep telling us to keep our doors and windows locked because 1 in 4 burglaries are through open/unlocked doors and windows.
Bradford are beyond belief, or is it a ploy so that once all the books have been stolen they can say the library is too expensive to run and close it down?

MALLINSON wouldn't allow the library to close in his ward would he? I give it 12 months, 24 at the most before it goes! He's made a lot of noises about it being cost effective, fully functional and all the rest of it. The scanners are not cheap to buy, what happens when they fail, patrons have problems with them etc? It's alright saying that the library is staffed 30 hours per week, you CANNOT beat face to face service, from people who know what they are about and are there to help.

I am not against technological progression, but this to me is a big step back. What kind of fire monitoring/alarm systems are in place in the library, where is the fire safety report? Where is the sprinkler system? Dodgy repair work, no adequate fire monitoring systems in place, good one!

If you get books out of Keighley Library, you do it yourself now, not a problem. And when you take them back it's just the same. People are not involved in the process other than yourself.
So what is the problem, or is it more politics again? wink ;)
