i have heard that Tornado will be steaming through Steeton and Silsden on Saturday morning. If true does anyone know the time. Heard a steam whistle a couple of Saturdays back so obviously steams hauled excursions do come this way. never seen one yet though.

I was at Whitby a few weeks ago and travelled to Pickering on a train pulled by the 'Sir Nigel Gresley'.

My Dad said he cabbed it at Keighley station in the late 1950's.

What was all that about?

I didn't take my camera with me tday - because of the weather. Might try my luck tomorrow though - presuming the line is open again after todays power line problem.

Apparerntly it has had problems on the way back. It was allowed along the Airevalley route despite the line being closed but got back to York 90 mins late.

And no I didn't go to watch it come back. wink ;)

I juust managed to see it when I eventually escaped from Silsden!

Howden Road roadworks was jammed with traffic not being able to get out because of the road surfacing.

Now I know how Patrick McGoohan felt in The Prisoner! sad :(

Alan, you could have walked down to the Station, no need to take a car, you know the roads are bad, it only about 3/4 of a mile if that, you could have called into a few pubs and shops on the way and brought some anti-whinging lotion or pills.............

What a great picture.

Trouble is, it's not as good looking as 'The Sir Nigel Gresley' which my Dad tells me is a 'Streak'.

What's that all about?

Thanks Peter, that's the one I was on at Whitby.

What a great looking train - beautiful.

Sorry but it's far better than that Tornado.

Wonder if it goes faster than my Honda 125 ?

If it had been travelling at 112mph the Harley would have killed me.

Think I'm interested in good looking railway engines now.

Will anyone swap a 'streak' for a Honda 125?

Peter
Don't forget the Mallard, same class as Sir Nigel, but it hold the World speed record for a steam loco; of 126MPH, can be seen for free at the National Railway Museum in York.

Gandad, I am no expert on steam engines, I have just been posting pictures which have been sent to me. I will admit to demanding to be taken to the local station at the age of 4 (before Beeching) to watch the steam trains thunder through the station - great happy :)

The diesels and electrics just don't do it for me.

PS A steam engine out of steam is dead. sad :(

That's very profound Peter.

Think I will nominate you for the 'Webmaster' of the year award.

'A steam engine out of steam, is dead'

Not many old steamers left alive now, apart from Alan of course !!! - a joke.

Bobber can rest assured that Pennypeck doesn't wear an anorak. Pennypeck doesn't even own an anorak.

The photographs submitted, and many more like them, were taken whilst out with our young Grandsons, using a small pocket-sized digital camera.

I am informed that a good site for finding (mainly) steam excursions nationwide is accessed by Googling "UK Steam". Most of the excursions have updated times posted days or even hours before the scheduled departure time. It is quite surprising how many steam trains come through our local stations, particularly during the spring / summer /autumn months.
