o.k skippy you wanted a b***y good moan well i'm having one. WHY on our water charges are we being charged an extra charge for surface drainage??
I stress this is a seperate charge from sewerage.
Now if you look on their website it states you are being charged for the rainwater hitting your property, dropping to the ground and being carried away.... down the drains!!!
is'nt this the same drain that takes all excess water from a household?? i.e sewage and if so why are we being charged twice??
I thought i would test them out so rang and asked if i would have to pay the surface drainage charge as I collect my excess water in butts, they laughed!!
They state that sewage charge is for removing the dirty water and surface drainage charge is for removing clean water i.e rain...so I pointed out it all goes down the same bloody drain...
them's the rules madam!!!
o.k had my moan now!!

That's not necessarily true 'alliecoward' happy :)

Modern drainage systems more likely than not are two separate systems, i.e. surface water and foul.

You should have done your homework 'alliecoard' before yo spoke to them, see this page -

www.yorkshirewater.com/?OBH=4830

BUT I think that you'll find it an impossibility to prove that NO surface water drains in to the sewers from your property!

Get your council tax monies worth and complain about all the blocked rain water drains here:
www.bradford.gov.uk/contact_us/online_forms/highways_and_streets/gully_defect_form.htm

There are loads to report in Silsden.

we have a water meter, and our water rates cost £20 per month, and bearing in mind how much we use, this seems very cheap. It has hardly changed in recent years, especially compared to gas/electricity which goes up all the time and has now doubled over 4 years! Won't say what that costs, I hate thinking about it.

alan, that is exactly my point... how can yorkshire water prove ALL the clean water goes into a seperate drain?? because it quite clearly does'nt, and therefore I am paying for a service which does not exist, and after speaking to them they admit that a lot of rainwater does go down the sewer drains, so surely if we are paying for a service they should provide it, or reduce the payment.
oh, and alan I did do my homework and dirty water is also classed as bath water, washing up water etc..... I have seen no
evidence oftwo seperate systems, your gutters from the house lead down the same drain that they go down,I have also tested this by lifting the cover down my drive emptying the washing up bowl and flushing the toilet, and guess what? all went the same way.

Surface water is the water that hits the surface. However, if that surface is solid, ie a house, patio or just paved over garden the water has to go somewhere. If it had hit the real ground t would have soaked in. Because it runs away it has to be drained away. This is what we are paying for.

Actually all the paved over gardens used for parking are becoming a real problem and causing larger amounts of run off water which then run off into drains and becks etc.

All the developments up Howden Road mean less land for the water to soak in so it runs down into the beck. the beck is over loaded and floods!

So if you wondered where all that extra water down the beck comes from then it is off all the buildings that have roads draining towards the beck. surface water not being polluted is safe to drain into natural water courses.

I think Silsden water is all drain off water from the moors. This is why it is soft, no kettle furring etc. whereas if it was borehole water from limestone then furred pipes would be a problem.

This is just supposition so if it could be confirmed or corrected by an expert I would be happy to know more about Silsden water. As far as I can taste it is as good as any of the bottled waters. Certainly does not affect the taste of a good malt 'wink ;)'); wink ;)

'alliecoward' I think you'll find I said 'MODERN' drainage systems.

Waterside could hardly be classed as modern!

Think you'll find we are as far as drainage is 'alliecoward'!

Modern developments includes sustainable systems, rainwater harvesting etc., etc!

Perhaps we should moan about the Tory government who privatised the utilities and allowed Yorkshire Water etc to introduce exhorbitant infrastructure charges etc and the fat cats to get richer on the back of the community who has to use them!

The drainage charge pays to maintain top water eg gutters/sewers/streams etc.It should also pay to make sure streams can take the water so we dont get floods on lets say Keighley Road

Whisky should be drunk 50:50 with water. This is what the experts say. Scottish acquaintances seem to agree. It is not water that is the no no, but ice.

Tip. If you are ever in Ireland and visit a distillery and sit through the talk when they ask for volunteers at the end get in quick. It is a tasting trial - 50:50 for the best taste.
