IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

I have, and like all religious books it is hard going, much of it does not make sense, and naturally plenty of sex.

Anyhow a few points, for everyone including muslims, because it is obvious most them have not read it.

Women; should dress MODESTLY, not in some prescribed garb. The Burka, yashmaq bit came about from desert tribes. When another tribe made a raid all the women covered themselves. This meant the raiders could not tell granny (whom they were not interested in) from the younger females (who they were interested in). When there was no raid off came this gear. Everyone usually covered themselves during the day to keep off the sun, and all over if there was a dust storm.

All this was all in the BC years so current religions have just adopted some practical practices as a means of control, usually of women.

Interst:

Muslims reckon they cannot pay interest: rubbish. The Koran reckons that one must conduct business fairly and not indulge in usury. Well in my book usury is and old term for ripping people off. So the advice is reasonable but does not say a muslim cannot pay a fair interest rate on borrowed moneys.

Some bits are positively quaint, like one man being worth two women, and that you should look after your slaves properly!

Of course, if you believe that god only speaks arabic an English translation does not count!!

I've read a minimal amount of the Q' ran and was quite surprised. As with most religions, people only "believe" what they want to believe.

Interesting point about the burka. I firmly believe that they have no place in our society and as such should be banned in public places.

The Q' ran that I have read says nothing about stoning adulterous women etc. Radicals??
News reports from last year when a teacher in a Keighley Mosque was filmed beating his pupils. Members of the families where visited by the local Pakistani gang members forcing them to keep quiet!

I apologise if my views offend anyone, but I feel that the time has come to say enough is enough.

Not sure I dare get involved with this discussion, but feeling brave . . .

Just a few points:
I haven't read the Qu'ran, as a Christian I haven't even read all of the Bible!
I imagine that like the Bible, some people take parts out of context and only believe/follow the bits they like!
And there are always extremists in any religion - sadly - who give people of faith a bad name.

As for the Bible being a fairy story . . . I'll leave that for another day!

It's quite boring reading all this tripe. Your views are not original, you just repeat the same old stuff you heard from the last generation, and the one before that.

Very true and extremists who dont follow any religion.Until non extremists speak out against the extremists it will always be a problem but in some religions people dare not speak out.
