These are the stats for silsden.net over the last 14 days

This is the average over the period

Over half of these visits are people looking at pages on the forum, it is popular Some people that contribute to the forum have strong views, some have very strong views, others just look.
My view in moderating this forum is; users should not post anything you would not say to someone’s face, this is sometimes forgotten and I have to step in and moderate the post or sometimes close the topic.
The ultimate sanction is to ban the forum user.
Contra to popular belief you DO NOT have the right to say whatever you like on this forum and the argument of free speech does not cut it with me when you are abusing a member of the public, or a fellow member of the forum. The people that cry freedom of speech and bullying are usually the ones doing the bullying in my experience.
I do not hide behind a pseudonym, I post and administrate this forum as ‘Peter’. It’s good people post under anonymous names because it allows users to freely express opinions. However, you should be aware not all posters play the game, a few have a hidden agenda and sign up to the forum with a disposable email address and false name. I spot most of them but not all, these people do not have Silsden’s best interest at heart and they do cause controversy.
I try to moderate the forum with a light hand but sometimes there comes a point when a topic has to be closed. There is a delicate balance between healthy debate and upsetting someone. At the end of the day this is my website and when it ceases to become enjoyable to run it will close.
Dammed if I do and dammed if I don’t…………………

I don't generally have an issue with your moderating Peter, it's pretty good and I can see you try to keep things from getting nasty or personal.
Although to your point about saying things you wouldn't say to someone's face, I think the thread about Skippy's proposed housing development was closed a bit abruptly and I certainly would have been happy asking my question face to face as I don't feel it was out of order.
Maybe the Councillors should say they will not post on here in their offical capacity and encourage people to attend council meetings or write to the clerk if they want to raise matters with them.
I could add more but I'll let others have a chance. |

I think Bill and Ted had the best mantra which should be used for moderation:
"Be excellent to each other" |

quote posted by Victor Dexter I have no problem with anyone voting for Skippy he's a good man, the problem I and many more have is with ADMIN. Victor, if you have a problem with my moderation of this forum do it on this thread, not on the "Not enough school places at Aireview infant school for children living in Silsden" topic.
I have asked several times for the school topic not to be made into a political football and I have deleted posts and steered it back onto topic. I don't have time to monitor every post and there are general and local elections happening soon. It is inevitable that on a topic so emotive as lack of school places that some political comments will slip through.
Short of holding every comment made on the forum for approval before posting, some comments will slip through and become part of the thread because other people will comment on the post.

Victor, do you think you could do a better job? |

Peter
Some people will moan and groan about every little thing without offering a solution to a problem, and these are the type of people that drag everyone else down if you let them. I am sure that some people that post comments on your forum would fall out with themselves if they were unfortunate enough to be locked in a room by themselves.
Someone has to monitor and police the forums and overall you do this in a balanced and responsible way, whilst at the same time providing a free service to the good (and not so good) people of Silsden. If people as so offended at how you police the site an easy solution would for them not to use it and vote with their feet (or mouse). |

Peter-I think you do a marvellous job. Also in your own time and free of charge. I am always recommending people to visit the site as it is informative , helpful and there are so many kind people on here who are also willing to help others . At times it is also great fun and a lovely start to the day. Keep up the good work. |
