Why does it seem in the current economic climate that some people are determined that the only way to save is to "INCREASE" their expenditure? Over recent week's i have witnessed folk paying over 10% more for their meat, fruit, veg and other household requisite's in a supermarket than if they used local shop's! Meanwhile hard working folk who run these shop's are facing hard time's!! It seem's "most" business's are finding time's hard! So much for supporting the local's. Maybe if they studied their receipt's and gave local's a try they'd see what they could save |

True Skippy! But will they give a flying fr*g about the shopkeeper's? Had 3 other's in saying they're worried!! I think the fact nobody has posted on this topic illustrate's the lethargy in the village. It's worrying!! All i can deduce is that folk want the shop's there to look at but not use. As i said initially it bemuse's me that folk will pay more for stuff. WHY? When it's all crap . . . as said on here by many people |

We think you're doing a great job Beechy and we're 'regular' and that's thanks to the fresh produce we buy! We support the local shops in Silsden (including the local Solicitors for milk thanks to the lack of milk at the co-op!) and appreciate the personal touch you get by shopping locally. Keep up the good work. By the way, S wants to know when you're going to make her a pumpkin - she wants a friendly smiley one!
Love Mrs Maj (after a glass or two of wine!) |

I always shop in silsden and I always give anywhere new that opens a try.Unfortunately I have to say that I was very disappointed with the new greengrocers, very limited choice of veg, not particularly fresh and the fish despite being told it was fresh in that day was certainly not fresh! sorry if that upsets anyone but thats how I found it.Also not much in window to tempt you in.Hope this is constructive critisism, bet I spelt that incorrectly |

I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed Ginjo! And yes i will take it as constructive critisism.I just hope part of that is to convey in person your complaint and allow us to try and make you happy.Moving forward is to learn from the past.Though in our defence i assure you the fish is nost defineitly fresh, never older than yesterday. And fresh not frozen. |

Not sure wether it was your fist visit to the greengrocers in Silsden Ginjo but it has been open for nearly a year now! Please feel free to come in and discuss, if we don't have what you want then we will endeavour to ascertain it for you given a little notice. Your comments would have been helpful at the time so something could have been done. Thank you for your comments! |

The reason most people use supermarkets is convenience, time being the most important factor rather than cost. How do you change that? Answer that and you are on the way to a chain of shops of your own. Personally I look for QUALITY of service, QUALITY of product then if the price is OK I buy. Sadly many businesses fall at the 1st.
Silsden as some out standing businesses in my opinion, which I use AND recommend to others. Peter how about an online poll for the best shop/pub, food outlet in Silsden. My vote is Isherwoods butchers or Paul’s DIY and Stefano’s restaurant |

I always buy local - why give money to the corporations for rubbish food. As for the best service from a local company it has to be Lazee’s followed by the King's Arms |

I think the problem small shops have particularly fruit and veg shops is that they do not sell enough to be able to have really fresh products, its a bit of a chicken and egg, if more people shopped there the products would be renewed more quickly. Whenever I go on holiday in uk , the local shops always have really fresh fruit and veg, most of it grown in the local area, the difference in taste is amazing.I wonder whether fodder could get their veg from local allotment growers? It would be a bit hit and miss as to what produce would be available according to the seasons but surely thats the best way to ensure cheap fresh goods.I do not accept that supermarkets are more expensive, they are all promoting fruit and veg and have offers on every week on one thing or another, they become expensive when you are tempted to buy all the other goodies on offer! |

Would you like a breakdown of where our produce come's from eg Pudsey,Hesketh Bank,North Lincs etc.And we get fresh stock at least 3 day's a week! And i think 44p for a nectarine at a leading supermarket compared to our 35p is a bit much. They buy much cheaper than us yet carry on fleecing Joe public.I take on board what you say though Ginjo |

Alan we will look into perhaps doing a later night.Have been giving this convenience issue some thought(dangerous activity)and it strike's me,this is just an observation,that:-
A, If you go to either of the main supermarket's in Keighley you will stand a chance of having to park at the far end of the car park which i believe would be a longer walk than from Wesley car park to any shop in the village!(The roadwork's won't last forever)
B,If you imagine the main aisle in either store they are both greater distance than it would take to buy pet food, bread, meat and veg in one VERY short walk in Silsden.(Plus you can go to the bank to pay your bill's etc etc)
Both of which would save the need to use petrol driving to Keighley.
Ok ok so it's simplistic but i believe also true |

so A cheaper B more conveniant (we all live within a mile of the shop) C better quality (it tastes like fruit n veg should not of boring water) D impecable friendly service second to none
the only problem i find is getting out of there in under an hour from chatting to the lads |

as I said before I shop in silsden every day but maybe twice a month I go to supermarket to do a "big shop" I do not drive and with the best will in the world I cannot carry much shopping in one go, I have a big hill to walk up and since hopper bus was taken away I have not been able to buy as much.I rely on someone to take me to supermarket.I don't know where nectarines are 45p each, certainly not in any of supermarkets I have been to.I just bought a bag of gala apples, buy one get one free 7 lovely apples in each bag £1.49 I think that is good value.Bag of "exquisa" potatoes 1kg 99p also on buy one get one free so 2kg for 99p.It is a fact that small shops will never compete with the big stores, they just cannot carry the variety.Maybe I just hit fodder on a bad day but the stuff I bought was definitely past its best and as I said not a lot of choice. It also does not look tempting, a good display in window would help, people like to see whats on offer without having to go in, then they can decide whether to bother or not.I have tried all the butchers in Silsden and again, its hit and miss, sometimes the meat is ok othertimes its like old boots and when I have mentioned it to them afterwards, I have never had an apology or anything.I know supermarket meat is also not much good, I tend to live on fish and chicken now because I cannot remember last time I had any decent beef, its always tough and tasteless and a waste of money as it usually ends up in the bin.Having said that just had some fantastic fillet steak from a farm shop on holiday, it had been "hung" for a while which apparantly improves the flavour and texture.I think a lot of the meat in butchers is too young.Going back to allotments, would it be possible to buy from them or do they want it all for themselves? |
