IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. on the subject of bonfires.as a dog owner i dread this time of year.it's not november 5th,i accept that as inevitable.i used to go to bonfires every year.now i just baton down the hatches and draw the curtains.no its the weeks before and the weeks after that grown men with small appendages try to out do each other with the size of their exploding rockets etc.i've defected to the peace and quiet brigade.and i'd happily have a punch up with any brain doner that lets a banger or rocket off on an evening anytime other than 'BONFIRE NIGHT' on some nights out with my dogs, all will be peaceful one minute then 'BANG!' resulting in crying babies and barking dogs.well, said my bit,now come on for the argument! |

Gotta agree with you there bobber ive never understood this i know ill use my hard earned money to buy something expensive that go's bang in a few seconds |

Can anyone tell me where "Bradley Green/the Old Tip" is please? |
|
| claymoreking |
quoteBeside Bradley Road, at the top of Foster Avenue. |

| ted |
well said bobs, although i think its the little kids that vandalise the park and the memorial gardens that are responsible for most of the unruly firework behaviour. i think we should revert to the old days and go hunt these damn kids down and give them a good lesson or two.(seen as though the council dont seem bothered) |

quoteup the side of the cobblers/taxi rank? is it further up than the 60mph zone? |
|
| alan |
It'll be easy to spot, there'll be a big fire there |
|
| pumbajunior |
Depends how early you get there |

quite agree with bobber my dog is a quivering wreck when fireworks are let off i think it should be restricted to one night, and only organized displays should be allowed that would make it a lot safer , and any monies made could be put to good use |

phew!! i thought when i started the anti-firework debate i would be hung drawn and quartered.thanks ted for your support but i take issue with where the offending brain doners hang out.as i have a commanding view of the whole (more or less) of silsden, the problem areas seem to be the farms up the nab and waterside, having said that thats the only bit i can see from our bedroom.the explosions that really rattle people so much are not £1.00 bangers, but the twenty quid nuclear bombs.not kiddie mischief after all.i suspect the people i'm trying to give an ounce of guilt to are not able to turn a computer on let alone find silsden.net.!! |

Most of the firework hooligans on our estate are middle aged with 2.4 kids |
|

Well after all that DOES anybody want this redundant garden furniture to burn!!! |
|
| alan |
You should know The Stiq that you never get a straight answer on here |

What makes dog owners think that they have the right to dictate to the rest of the world what they can and cannot do. I never asked you to take on a dog and I do not believe there are any laws to say that fireworks can only be let off on only one day of the year. P.S. I will not be letting off any fireworks this year although the stupid analogy with anatomy had no influence on that decision, and I also own a dog who does not like fireworks. |
|
| bobber |
laofer,if you own a worried dog you're on my side. if you can't read more into the 'stupid analogy' fair enough, whatever! missed the point mate,it's not just selfish dog owners like me.it's dogs, cats, cattle, wildlife, people on shift work, etc.i say again 5th november fair enough.but not barbeques, birthdays and general p*ss ups for months on end. |

This site makes interesting reading, as does the DTI Fireworks site. www.hertsdirect.org/yrccouncil/hcc/corpservices/tradingstandards/bus/businessadvice/fireworks |

Chris the bonfire on the green was a wonderful display of just what Silsden can achieve, if the folk who care, work together for the good of the whole community. Many thanks to you, and all your hard working team, for such a good evenings entertainment. Already looking forward to the extravaganza and next year’s events. |
