A quote from this weeks Keighley News: - Keighley could breakaway from Bradford and form a new district council, regaining powers it lost more than 30 years ago, under suggestions outlined by new Bradford Council leader and Worth Valley councillor Kris Hopkins. Now wouldn't that be interesting for Silsden? Would be stay with Bradford or go with Keighley? |

Twice in the last century the late Clr. Fergus Green went to the House of Lords to stop Keighley annexing Silsden. Silsden people were so grateful that they named a street after him. Better the devil you know, or better still return to Silsden UDC. Imagine having Silsden people deciding on Silsden issues and spending Silsden money on Silsden. |

I think it's a subject that could have very major ramifications for this town. I for one wouldn't like to be annexed! What would happen to the schools for instance? Most kids in Silsden go to secondary school in North Yorkshire. Bradford already don't like that! What would Keighley be like? |

So far as education is concerned. If Silsden was run by Keighley they would ignore us, as they would in any other dealings, we would become just a suburb, or more accurately a money box. |
