Well done STC and Cllr Mallinson!

Hot food plan rejected
12:12pm Thursday 22nd May 2008

By Miran Rahman »

Fears over parking and inadequate waste disposal persuaded Keighley Area Planning Panel to reject a change of use application for a building in Bolton Road, Silsden.

Members were asked to consider whether the premises - currently classified as a retail property - could be used to house a hot food takeaway.

Planning officer Peter Timbrell spoke in favour of granting permission, noting the building was in a commercial neighbourhood.

However, a resident's objection letter stated the town already had seven takeaways and two chip shops.

Cllr Michael Ellis said he felt the space designated for rubbish did not look large enough to accommodate sufficient wheelie bins.

District councillor Andrew Mallinson, who objected to the proposals, added the application would exacerbate traffic and parking problems on the already busy Bolton Road.

Cllr Catherine Rowen said it was unrealistic to expect takeaway customers not to park on the road directly outside the business.

It was posted because it has gone back to planning, and given the obvious agreement with it by the planning officers we need to be vigilant that it does not now slip through!

You've probably told us this before, but how can we best help to ensure this revised application doesn't go thru?

submitted this:-

I object to the application for change of use to a hot food takeaway. Silsden is already well catered for with take-aways, we have Chinese, Thai, Indian, pizza, fish and chip shops etc, all within 2 minutes walk or less of the property. In addition I anticipate that customers of the proposed take-away will park illegally outside the premises, obstructing traffic and causing safety problems. The white UPVC window frames that have already been installed do not appear to be in keeping with the character of the rest of the properties on Bolton road. Also I believe the property to be in a Conservation area and any change of use would need to be sympathetic to the character of the area.
