A sad day for Silsden losing another facility. Barclays keep phoning me asking me to bank on line and arrange a direct debit for my Barclay card! I told them I like face to face banking. Grateful to all staff past and present for their good work especially two generations of the Denton family |

bandnwire no disrespect to anyone who is disabled but barkleys have shut and the post office will caryon with barklys accounts so dont shoot us who support local people who are willing to help the dissadvantaged in society |

it was a real drama working next door all day, the staff were receiving gifts and flowers all morning . at 1pm sharp the money wagon arrived and removed all cash, the vans also arrived by 1pm, and by 3pm the cash machine was out, 5pm all bank paraphernalia gone , the end off an era!!!!!!! |

I can perhaps bank online if I wish, but you can't pay cheques in. |

It is a great pity the Royal Mail/ Post Office did not negotiate for the Barclay premises, far better accommodation and very easy access for people with mobility problems. |

Yes i thought Public Buildings should have adapted entrances and believe it is ststute law. Not sure why the Post Office is an exception. After all it is not a grade 3 listed building! |

There is also a get out when it is not physically possible to provide disabled access, especially on old buildings listed or not. It is obvious on the PO that any special access facility would take up most of the limited floor area. If the issue were forced we all no what the result would be. No Post Office. |

Noticed this morning that the Florist on Kirkgate, next to Martins as closed down as well. Not boding well for the future of shopping in town. Another takeaway perhaps!!!!! |

not another hairdressers surely, I would have thought there were enough in silsden, and in times of recession you would think that people might cut back on things like that (also on eating takeaways!)I suppose silsden could not sustain more than one florist and co-op sells flowers too.I think the newsagent on briggate is for sale as well, oh dear doom and gloom |

I can hardly say i am surprised that businesses are closing - most do receive enough business but i am afraid the rents in Silsden are set too high and then add the recession and hey presto, a dying high street. The landlords are going to end out having to cut their rents but it may be too late by then |

At one time everyone shopped at the village shops, rich and poor. But the poor realised they were being screwed so started the Co-Operative movement. The 'poor' used the Co-Operative while the better off patronised the local shops. The increase is personal mobility meant that the better off could move around and choose their shops. The poor meanwhile stuck with the Co-Operative. I shop at the Co-Operative. I am also mobile and shop at theose other local shops from Yorkshire and Lancashire (Asda, Morrisons, Booths, Marks and Spencer) and sometimes those from down South (Tescos, Sainsburys, Waitrose) and occasionally the foreign Johnnies: Aldi, Lidl, Netto etc. Not many places in this country where one has such a choice. Within reason all can be reached by bus and train from Silsden. I also support local shops when they have what I want. Mainly newspapers, bread, meat and the PO. Specialist shops will always struggle if they do not target a local market, and/or have a net shop back up. |
