this post has been edited 1 time(s) Calls for Keighley to break away following revelation townspeople are pumping over £42m into Bradford "Basically, Shipley and Keighley are subsidising Bradford city centre, which is using us as a cash cow without that money being spent on services in our areas. "If the council is so short of money, as it claims, it should get its Labour heartlands to pay what's due. "The case for us breaking free from Bradford and making our own council for the Aire Valley gets stronger and stronger." Keighley MP Kris Hopkins described the figures as "outrageous", and said it was time for a new move to break away. "These figures confirm my constituents are being ridiculously short-changed by Labour-run Bradford Council," he added. "During the past five years of Labour control, Bradford City Hall has brutally cut services and funding in Keighley, Ilkley and Shipley, whilst shamelessly pouring money into parts of the district represented by Labour MPs and councillors. The usual rubbish from people who think that money comes from no where. If inner Bradford were cut off from the funds provided by greater Bradford what would the consequences be? Well, of course, no one has mentioned what these might be. At the worse inner Bradford becomes a bit like Syria with refugees pouring out to outer Bradford. This would cost outer Bradford. As usual figures bandied about by the two local tory MPs, whose parties policys created all the problems in the first place. |

I hope we are not running the idea that a SILSDEN controlled by keighley would be any better than a SILSDEN controlled by Bradford. |

quote At the worse inner Bradford becomes a bit like Syria with refugees pouring out to outer Bradford. As sick as anything ever posted on Silsden.net or a cheap jibe. Suggesting that if Bradford Council was split inner city Bradford would see torture, brutal murder, rape, barrel bombs, chemical weapons and civil war on religious grounds |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) Aah!! the honourable Philip Davies. The magnificent filibuster who talks and talks and talks utter crap to stop bills getting through the House of Commons! Just a few of the many debates he has stopped - ''Davies has filibustered legislation to stop rogue landlords evicting tenants asking for basic repairs. He also tried to thwart legislation to enshrine the Government aid budget in law – despite the legislation having the support of all three main parties. And earlier that month – using a different tactic – he managed to prevent a Bill banning the use of wild animals in circuses from even being debated in the Commons. Before that he had helped prevent attempts by backbenchers to get mandatory smoke detectors fitted in rented properties, regulate payday lenders and force councils to provide support to those who care for the disabled. The Tory MP spoke for 90 minutes straight in order to block a law that would give carers free hospital parking has caused outrage - but it seems that actually no one should be surprised, given his previous form. Yes you've guessed it controversial Shipley Tory MP (that's putting it mildly) Mr Davies '' WhoTF voted for this man? You should be ashamed of yourselves! Replace him immediately with someone who takes the democratic process seriously!! These are just a few of the outrageous filibusting tactics this man has used. Time to outlaw this undemocratic tactic in the HoC! Anyone agree with this MP's outrageous tactics? |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) no thanks to our honourable Mr Davies then? What about all the other many filibusting tactics that this tax-paying MP has employed? He is a disgrace to the democratic process! How can anyone debate subjects when he slathers on and on! |

Obviously some areas will pay more than others but the amount is shocking. The big problem is where Bradford spend that money. The saying you get what you pay for does not apply as people in inner Bradford get what they have not paid for. Not sure why Old Miner blames the Tory Government when over the last 20 years Labour were in power and for sometime Labour have run Bradford Council. Regarding decision making, the closer to Silsden those decisions are made the better. But dont think under these proposals the area would be £42m better off. Most of council spending comes from Government grant so if that was split it would be adjusted with more going to Bradford but at least decisions would be made on where to spend money would be made in the area.. |

My comment was a metaphor! Tories have been in power more than Labour, but never caused problems with their policies? |
