The keighley bypass is shut off, not sure why yet though. The traffic is backed up all into and through silsden, all up the skipton bypass and all along the keighley back road so it's causing chaos whatever it is. most likely a crash, saw a few sirens heading up the keighley bypass.

bypass was shut at 5.30
female police officer told me there had been an accident
had to go round roundabout and over tops to east morton to come to work
had the great idea of using industrial estate rickety bridge route to miss UU howden road misery

Story I heard, from someone who'd supposedly seen it was that it was a fatal accident eastbound between Steeton and Keighley Golf Club.

Still closed at 8.00pm.

Congratulations to PCSO Blood for the splendid job he was doing directing traffic at Steeton lights, I was through in a breath! Well done. wink ;)

I know it is a tragedy for someone but I am not sure that it was neccessary to close the road for so long bearing in mind the resulting chaos which occurred, cars were still queing to get out of silsden at nearly 9pm!!
I also noticed that utley and steeton seemed to be in complete darkness when I went to bed, what was that all about?

When there is a fatality on any road there are procedures and I assure you it is completely neccessary for the services to close a road whilst collecting evidence and cleaning up!

It is sad and it does need a detailed assessment of what has happened. But it is over the top how long roads are closed for nowadays. Its been happening for a couple of years now and West Yorkshire Police appear to keep roads closed longest. If you listen to Radio Leeds the M62 can be closed all day in West Yorks but when they give reports for drivers going to East Yorks or Lancashire on the M62 you dont hear of such traffic chaos.

Seems to be a bit of a difference of opinion in different newspaper reports. Did it happen at Steeton end or Keighley end?

it happened not very far from the keighley roundabout. i left work early so i hit the roundabout at roughly 5.15 no problem getting out of keighley onto the by-pass but coming into keighley looked horrendous. i suppose they had to shut the outbound route for police and medic vehicles to get to the scene easily
