What time does it get full in the morning? What is the latest time you can get there to be sure of fingding a space? I imagine about 7am but am I being optimistic?

This won't answer your question but the following has just been published in the T & A re "Now Craven ward councillor Andrew Mallinson has told Silsden Town Council that £500 has been given by the area co-ordinator’s office to conduct a questionnaire of car park users."

www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/local/airelocal/3959845.print/

Is it me? but this seems to be a waste of money to carry out a survey with the aim to enlarge the station carpark. We all know the station car park is filled up by commuters from out of area because if they travel from Steeton / Silsden they get subsidised travel and free parking.

The survey should ask Silsden and Steeton commuter what could be done to improve access to the station eg buses meeting the trains, setdown places, how to get from one platform to the other - easily, somewhere warm and dry to wait for trains.

(STC agreed to give £100 to the survey!)

Rant over..... for now....

Now Peter watch the blood pressure. That wasn't the only reason for the survey.

One of the issues was that buses don't meet trains! I witnessed the ludicrous situation of a bus going in to the turning circle not stopping and driving out TWO MINUTES before the train arrived!

I know the one you mean! My train from Bradford arrives 2 minutes after the bus leaves every night.....talk about coordinated Metro travel. It would be funny if it weren't so serious to those who have to walk into Silsden just because they can't sort it out. I kid myself it's good exercise, but on cold rainy days it's no joke.

I have blown this ere trumpet before, but once more for luck - Non Metro residents should not be able to buy metro cards, they are subsidised by our rates not theirs. North Yorkshire should stump up.

As to the buses, yes its maddening, although its not just West Yorkshire, Jacksons are often ahead of time.

The above is just my own opinion, to which I am entiltled.

A bit more about the proposed survey on use of the railway station on the Craven Herald website today:

www.cravenherald.co.uk/news/ocalnews/3962277.print/

Coun Mallinson said it was widely thought that commuters from Skipton and beyond drove to the station so they could pay reduced fares in a different zone.

But he said he needed proof to persuade railway bosses to extend the cheaper zone fare price to Skipton in a bid to free up space in the car park for local people.

He said: “The survey will ask where people have come from, where they are travelling to, what times and if they park at the car park.

.....

“The questionnaire is being designed by a professional and will take 30 seconds to answer.”

...hummmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!1.....

It will be most interesting to see what if anything Cllr Mallinson does with the information once he gets it?
We all know without having to ask that a great percentage of the cars come from outside west Yorkshire to use our cheap fares.
Will he push for North Yorkshire council to pay to extend the cheap fares to Skipton, or push for an extension of the parking at our station?
Am I being cynical if I suggest he is just making waves so he can look good leading up to the election next year?

I have often wondered about the lack of bus/train co-ordination at the Station. I suspect this is the problem.

In the past the trains did not run regularly to the clock, ie. every hour on the hour say but with variable intervals. Buses tend to run to the clcok so co-ordination is difficult.

Now the trains do run to the clock, but which train to synchronise with. There are four trains an hour, rush hours and Sundays excepted. There are two buses an hour. They could synchronise with the Leeds train or the Bradford train, but unless the bus service doubles, not both. Also one suspects it might be used to much as people would still have to walk to a bus stop.

The non selling of metro cards to non West Yorkshire Residents is really a non starter. Besides commuters they can also be used by tourists. Extending it beyond the borders is a better bet. Trouble is co-operation, small word, big problem.

Access to station seen as dangerous
9:26am Thursday 11th December 2008
Keighley News

Northern Rail and Bradford Council officers have been shown the dangers for disabled people of crossing a railway station.

www.keighleynews.co.uk/news/news_aire/3968044.print/

Reading between the lines (and we all know this) Silsden Station is not fit for purpose. In is article Norther Rail say....

“That highlighted the issue that the car park is full to capacity and more room needs to be made. But Northern Rail pointed out that the train was also full to capacity, so more spaces would mean more carriages so it is a bit of a chicken and egg situation as to what to try and get first.”

Part of the parking problem could be solved if the buses were co-ordinated with the trains.......

rant over for another day......

What about synchronising with the Skipton trains for those people who work in Skipton and many kids who go to Craven College?

Besides I though everyone who knows these things wants us to use public transport, so bigger car park, Metro deals to Skipton, and more carriages. All no brainers!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Just to remind people an internet survey was completed a while ago about access to the station the results can be seen here www.silsden.net/survey/results/CyclePathResults_questions.htm

It's probably my fault for making this thread slighly off topic but someone must know when the station car park is full.

It's looks quite close to being full at 7am but I don't park there. happy :)sad :(laugh :D

Without a barrier the first person to know it is full is the first person who cannot find a space.

Never used the car park on a regular basis but cycled regularly when the storage huts first appeared. For the first batch they were all full by 7:30. I was always early so usually got one.

They must be a good design as they are still there, plus some new ones.

I catch the train Monday to Friday and if you are at the station by 7.30 you can normally get a parking space - any time after 7.55 means you probably won't find one

If you want to get from silsden & steeton station you either get a taxi, walk or drive. Its local knowledge the bus service is as good as a dead horse pulling a kart!
