I walked round there this morning but couldn't walk across the temporary bridge at the time because the workmen were completing the removal of the old bridge.

I hope the temporary structure is not washed away, the weather forecast is not good!

Peter, I think you will find that the whole structure will be removed today, or the next few days. There will be no 'temporary' bridge.

As STC and members of the public were told last night by the Bradford Met rep the new bridge should be erected in the new year, probably February or March.

It will be considerably better designed than the old one. All those at the meeting were very impressed by the design and Bradfords efforts in the replacement. Rather than critise them we should praise them on this occasion wink ;)

if the bridge take as long as the cctv system to install we will never see it I think it is nearly a year since the cameras were due to be up and running.

Not sure what the cameras have to do with the bridge!

BUT, as posted before on here before, the CCTV is not installed BECAUSE of the culvert works in the town, i.e. the island where the pole is has been temporarily removed while the work continues.

All the other parts are already in place.

Don't shoot me I'm only passing info on wink ;)

Yes, As I said to Pumbajunior this afternoon with all this rain we should rename it Bridge of the Enterprise as it looked to me like it needed a Scottish guy saying "She canny take no more,Captain".

On a more serious note, I know it is fenced off but with the rate at which the water is coming through not only the beck but the torrent of water come onto it from the path in between Rocks and Ramps I owuld be surprised if it lasted the weekend out. Here's hoping everyone has the sense to stay well off it.

The scaffold and planks that are/were there are not a new bridge! They are only a platform to allow them to remove the old bridge!!!

You can't blame them! CCTV was to be in by Christmas, which was said in September 07.
On the bright side, I have heard the bridge is actually made, it was delayed because the Town council wanted their crest on the bridge, now all that is needed is the piers at each side to be built and it can be dropped into place.

Not correct re the bridge grandad! Weren't you at the meeting before it was ordered?

Bradford offered to put the TOWN crest on it not the TC's! BEFORE IT WAS ORDERED!

Naughty grandad get your facts right! wink ;)

Alan, you really do need to get out more! Stop being so picky.
Yes I was at the first meeting when the plans were presented, and I well remember the chap saying the bridge would be in by February, then he was asked to include the “Town” crest his reply was he didn’t see any problem with that if he was sent a copy of just what the council want to be placed on the bridge, has it is now march and the bridge is not yet in place I don’t think it is an unreasonable suggestion that the delay was because the crest took a little more time than expected.
By the way I was told last night they are coming with a big crane next Thursday morning at 6am to start installing the bridge.

I think I am right (Alan will correct me if I am not,) they have to build the walls at both ends before it will be open for us mere mortals to use, then no doubt somebody wanting publicity for a re-election will get their photo in the press!

Looks like the crest will be a bolted-on goodie. The bridge may be in place but there is a little bit of work to do before it will be open, a few gaps to fill and a few bolts to put in. I don't think it will take that long to sort it out.
