is it coming from the allotments? There are a few inconsiderate people in silsden who burn rubbish and fill the whole town with smelly smoke, the golf club seem to be guilty of it.report it to environmental health, they can investigate, they can issue a notice I think , if it is causing a nuisance to neighbours.

If the smoke is coming from the direction of the Pens, it is likely that somebody is burning the insulation off copper wire before selling it for scrap.

If they are burning the insulation off then they are clueless!! Me and my dad used to strip insulation off and its easy. Strip back about an inch or two by cutting down the length of the wire. Then trap the exposed copper in a vice (or summat similar) and pull the insulation back. It comes off all types of wire easy, just like skinning a rabbit.

Maybe someone should enlighten them, or maybe just report them if they're being inconsiderate nuisances.

i know who the main offender is and it has been reported to the enviromental health.
apparently not so much a nuisance in their eyes.
best thing to do is call them when there is a fire burning that is causing an offence and they can see exactly where it is coming from.... maybe you could have a walk down sykes lane and see where its coming from first?

i dont have the number anymore as it was over a year ago when i contacted them (summer '06). its the general number in the phone book and they will put you through.

to be fair the fires are not as regular as they used to be, and the barking isn't as loud either.

maybe keep a little diary to see if the fires are regular? if its bothering you.

I went for a walk yesterday afternoon and coming back down from cringles I could see several lots of smoke from various fires, it causes a lot of pollution and the trunk road suffered from visibility problems. There are a lot of ignorant people who do not think about the consequences of their actions, they just think oh its a lovely sunny day lets burn our garden rubbish!!
It is a nuisance and if reported to environmental health they can issue a warning not sure what other powers they have.Best to keep a log of the dates and times and who is doing it then give them a ring.Last time someone had a fire near me I asked them to put it out and they did.

They cant put a stop to it if people dont complain.... keep logs and dates and times BUT also ring the Council immediately as they will only do something if they actually see it themselves.

Its not just domestic rubbish being burned, i here it is also trade waste... might not be true but its a disgrace if it is.

Maybe all them 'woof woof's' i hear are burning dogs too. mmm.
