IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Topic : Tree felling in a conservation area ./ Broken bridge ???? |
|

A while ago now the land next to the bypass and silsden roundabout opposite Dicks wood yard was up for let, this land was full of various trees. Now occupied by a few shabby looking horses the new owners cut down all the trees when they moved onto the land. Is Silsden not a tree conservation area ??? Shorly after they moved onto the site the old stone bridge that had been there for decades mysteriously broke and fell not allowing public access past the horse field. On closer inspection of the bridge stone slab you can see where this has been cut at the edges weakening the stone slab. This must have then been forged to break with a heavy object, possibly a tractor bucket... much like the one parked in the horse field ???? This was reported to the council who have since erected a wooden foot bridge. Only a week ago im walking my dog and yet again they are at it with their chainsaws felling the remaining trees ??? |

to my knowledge there is no such thing as a tree conservation area. You can apply to the council to have a tree preservation order placed on individual trees, and there are quite a few in silsden with such orders but if someone is determined to cut a tree down with a preservation order on it, they just get a fine. |

Ahh ok....So the gain outweighs the punishment then eh as the land is far more usefull without trees on it its worth the risk of a fine. And as for the damage to the bidge (assuming it was) that would result in a fine also... |

You can check TPOs here gis.bradford.gov.uk/tpos/FramePage.cfm The site is a bit picky about what browser it will run with - Explorer will work but you have to accept the Active-X control code onto your machine. This is the TPOs in place that Bradford recognise. |

There are such things as tree conservation areas, where I grew up in North Lincolnshire you had to declare if you wanted to cut down a tree on your property and they would visit you and check that you had replaced the tree. |

We used to live in a tree conservation area - but it only applied to trees that were there when it was setup. So we could remove all the young tress without any problems, but needed to discuss work on others with the local council. I can't imagine there is such on order on agricultural land by the bypass though. Bri |

Trees oun this land will not be covered by a TPO, because they aren't old enough or deciduous species. As a student in environmental conservation, I wish I had the 14k required for that piece of land, things would be very different. That piece of land did have potential for a small business. |
