This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Remember the publicity given to 'public consultations' over the future of the newly cleared green space in Dradishaw Road? There have been posters, newspaper articles and meetings -all with the theme "give us your ideas".
School-children came up with some brilliant designs for a play area -but probably not an ideal site, as it is next to the Gloucester Ave flats for elderly people. Not many people turned up for meetings but there is a lot of local support expressed for allotments. There are now over 60 people on waiting lists for allotments in Silsden, all anxious to 'go green' and grow their own, and here seems a golden opportunity to provide more. However the organisation that organised the consultation has now declared that allotments on the site are not possible.(No explanation as to why not)Instead,as a sop, Silsden is being offered 'food growing workshops'. (Surely a phrase concocted by someone who doesn't know their marrows from their maltesers!) People wanting to grow their own veg want an allotment, and that's just what we don't have enough of!!
