Is anything going to be done with the crossing near clog bridge junction? I thought I read some time ago that a pelican crossing was going to be installed or the crossing moved a bit further up kirkgate.
I was crossing it last week and some idiot coming from silsden did not stop, he was totally oblivious to the fact that there was anyone on the crossing, he was busy gawping at the bridal shop or something.I am always cautious because I know a lot of drivers don't stop, however the car coming into silsden had stopped so I put a foot onto the crossing and thought I had made eye contact with the car coming the other way, he appeared to be slowing down so I carried on very carefully and he just drove straight on, if his window had have been open, I could have shaken hands with him!! instead I just shook my head in despair. There are too many distractions just there the bridal shop being one of them, most people gawp at it so it would be a good idea to move the crossing further up the road.

I think we all agree the bottom crossing is really dangerous and is the most important crossing in need of an upgrade.

There was a fight for funds to upgrade one of the crossings. Malinson wanted money to be put towards the Town Hall crossing, Naylor wanted the Eliot Street / Howden crossing upgraded to a Pelican crossing.

Adrian Naylor won and the bottom crossing will be upgraded to a Pelican Crossing, but because of the delay caused by the disagreement, the project has gone to the bottom of the heap so I would guess the work will be done around April.

I had heard that a pelican was being installed at the town hall crossing at the moment, presume this is wrong?

Yes, it will just be a ski-jump (raised crossing)

Not sure why Tour de France will be bothered. This type of town centre traffic calming is very common in France and Spain and they seem to live with it.

Could you ride a bike at 50mph over that ramp and stay on a bike?

Watch the videos - they don't hang about... and don't forget they will have just come down Bolton Road at 60mph. The corner a Stephanos will be interesting and 40mph over the ski-jump doesn't seem too far from the truth.

How can Bradford get away with making the ramp on the Methodist Church side of the footpath that steep, a person moving themselves alone in an ordinary wheelchair will struggle to get up it and possibly even risk loosing control on the way down it.
There must be legal requirements about the max incline on footpaths.

Road signs and devices used to force motorists to slow down will need to be removed when the Tour de France comes through Huddersfield next summer.

But the decision about what will have to be shifted, when and how much it will all cost have yet to be taken.

The Huddersfield section of the route starts at Ainley Top to Huddersfield via Halifax Road, the Castlegate loop and Castlegate.

two big white chevrons on either side but not seen them in the dark driving yet, and of course 30mph is a max with a crossing and parked cars in sight any decent driver should be only doing 20mph at max.happy :)

In Spain recently and there are a load of this type of ramp on dual carriageway and the then single road into town. Locals seem to cope and they are fine at up to 30 mph. Anyone having an accident on the one in Silsden will have to be going well over 30. Another one up Bolton Road would be useful, and one just over the canal bridge.

Try driving over it at about 8pm when oit is dark and wet... At a time when you can drive over at 30mph. Don't forget the experience is different depending on the direct you are traveling.

Now think about soemeone who doesn't know the road and maybe is going a bit faster than 30mph. Is it obvious the crossing is raised?

The answer is yes, there are markers on the raised crossing, just like hundreds of others in Yorkshire. And they should be travelling at or below the speed limit. If they damage their car, tough!
Time to put this one to bed Peter.......happy :)

Anyone having an accident on a wet dark night on that illuminated crossing a mile or more inside a 30 limit as they haven't seen it, needs their licence removing! And an eye test.

Same as the idiots who think setting off when the people crossing are just past their car is a good idea.

And that's speaking as a driver rather than a pedestrian.

This crossing WILL be upgraded to a Pelican Crossing soon. Until the work is done use extreme caution when using. The number of people which set off on the crossing when the near-side traffic stops but then don't bother to look to see if the traffic is stopped on the other side... unbelievable. sad :(sad :(sad :(

Help yourself... keep looking!

Peter I suspect you will call it semantics; but I believe the new crossing near clog bridge will be a puffin and not a pelican.
