with the likes of one local pub with larger at £2.40p clubs and some pubs at £3 or less and our skipton keighley and ilkley wetherspoons chain doing carling at £1.96 a pint, why cant other locals and pubs in the surrounding area be £3 or less, thats 5 pints for under a tenner at spoons and others are 2 1/2 pints per £10.new years eve has been like an ordinary friday night out as have xmas eve &boxing day, prior to that pubs had doors manned and one out one in in operation..i dont think that people staying at home drinking and partying are tight i think they are just sensible with their money and dont like being ripped off,as a larger drinker maybe someone else can name beer or real ale prices,,no wonder pubs are shutting all over the place and that leaves the remaining few more or less charging what they want.surely the breweries can understand this and theres got to be a limit ,even the government has stopped or reduced tax rises.if the difference is so great between pubs etc surely something can be done to save them and bring folk back to wine women and song. |

we had some very good real ale at steeton hall recently £2.80 a pint and it was on top form. You cannot grumble at that especially in a hotel/restaurant.The food was very good also |

The problem is that 3 of the 4 pubs in Silsden are owned by 2 of the big pub companies, Punch Taverns and Enterprise Inns, and they have the landlords by the danglies by charging 30-40% higher than the free trade wholesale prices for beer etc. and electronically monitor most lines to make sure that the volume of beer they are selling matches the volume of beer they are buying from the Pub Co.
If the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Bill ever gets fully passed into law this would effectively break the beer tie and allow publicans to buy beer from whatever source they wanted and could result in cheaper beer, put the pub companies would increase the rent to what they consider to be a market value, so this could impact on any reductions.
Big business will win every time.
On a happier note, I had a pint of Sam Smiths Dark Mild in the Sunnybank the other day and it is only £1.35 a PINT and very drinkable. |
