IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. great to see the progress on the sports buildings, but as far as the bad parking is concerned nothing will ever happen......nobody cares a jot, and it will get worse as the facilities expand. I don't think there will be enough parking inside the sports ground to accommodate everyone...or will there? |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) parking today was nothing to do with the sports club patrons, it was a walking/hiking group!!!!!!! |

not sure if it matters who it is who causes the problem. There is a problem, and maybe it is time for the double yellow lines to appear, and solve it once and for all. By the way, I've seen the ramblers groups many times on their own, and there's no way that they were the main cause. They park in Belton Road usually, not on the main road. |

New Club - house looking good now . Nice to see progress being made by the clubs involved. i would guess a lot of unpaid work has gone on behind the scenes. In all this doom & gloom recently its pleasing to see Silsden being succesful. Another venue for functions etc. Good for competition i would think. Lets hope the Silsden folk get behind them & not sit whinging here!!! |

well said the stig no knows how mutch unpaid work people put into any sort of sports clubs they only see the negative to moan about. |

coby1 I know it can be frustrating to hear people express concerns but they won't know about all the good things being done unless people tell them, whereas the inconsiderate parking is easy to see when you drive past. Why not tell us what's happening at the sport field to counter the negative comments, I know I'd be interested. |

Dont you just get sick of people who think a good Sunday out with the kids is to pile em all in the car drive em down past the football ground,to play hell about the car parking on their way to Macdonalds to fill the kids up with coke /burgers and chips. Then after a good burp drive em back home to play on their play stations back past the football ground play hell again about the parking outside a sports facility where people can spend time with their kids to burn off some of those calories and energy in decent surroundings. ITS A FACT, PARKED CARS DO SLOW DOWN THE SPEED MERCHANTS AND MAKE PEOPLE TAKE EXTRA CARE,ITS CHEAPER THAN SPEED BUMPS AND CHEAPER THAN YELLOW LINES. SPEED AND CARELESS DRIVING KILL NOT PARKED CARS. Enough said! |

quoteBut they would be nowt to moan at Perhaps you as a member of the club should make it your prime business to point out the positive aspects! I do from the clubs I am a member of! |

Yes Alan you are right we do intend to make a statement as the new steering committee has now been formed and we know how much the new facilities will give to the people of Silsden and what positive benefits we have brought for the town,I think its fair to say no other paid or unpaid group have been able to deliver such a fantastic facility for all to benefit from, but I am sure you will understand my frustrations when I keep reading negative comments, instead of people coming forward with help and ideas it gets a little wearing and boring, hence my attempt to bring a little humour to this forum. We as a responsible committee are aware of the problems and have tried and will keep on trying to sort it out but we have to make a living as well. |
![]() |
alan |
Knowing people on this forum, I don't think they'll see your reply as humour! No one would deny that the facility is good for Silsden. But you still gotta sell it! No one ever sells it! I've asked before how kids can get involved etc and had no response! Sell it to people, be positive ![]() |

Time to lighten up a little Alan. I read this forum and see most have a sense of humour.Suggest you visit the Silsden A F C web site so you can see whats going on click on the junior web and you will find alot of answers to your questions. Have to go now another meeting 5th since christmas!Try to keep positive. John L (doing it for silsden) |

Well, I dunno about that, I suppose it would have been good. How many games would they have been used for I wonder. I guess the function room allows the club to recoup some of their outlay and benefits more of Silsden than just those involved in the club. |

quotewould flood lights have not been better than an expensive bar/function room? The clubhouse is for both the football club and cricket and I doubt the cricket club would find floodlights much use.20/20 floodlit cricket has not arrived in the Airedale/Wharfedale League. |

Is there still a bowling green at the sports field? |

Thanks jonno for putting the link on so everyone can see we are trying to do our best in difficult times. Alan re last nights meeting, just a quick line to let you know it was suggested that we have a open day in the town hall to put on a exhibition for people to see how the sports ground has progressed over the years, before the official opening day. Can you suggest how we can collect pictures /stories /news paper cuttings ect from the past to present,we feel it would be good for everyone to see what has happened through the years, and by it being in the town hall a central point for any one to call in and see, what do you think? We think its a great way to promote sport in Silsden, Should this be a new topic?. |
