I'm a 20 year old mum of one, I regularly take my toddler to feed the ducks then walk along the beck towards the children's play park via the skatepark and I am so disgusted at the amount of rubbish that is just dumped into the beck - we in silsden are very lucky to have such a lovely park and pond and its being ruined by people to ignorant to put their rubbish in the bins. There are 4 bins in close proximity to the skate park, none of them have bin liners in and none of them are used. I understand the local kids get a lot out of the skatepark but something has to be done to stop all the rubbish - it's disgusting! I personally would get my hands dirty and organise a team of people to clean all the rubbish out of the beck but only if I knew measures would be put in for it not to get like that again.
I was at the park the other day and a group of teenage lads were on the swings and when they left they just chucked all their litter all over the floor despite there being a bin right next to them! I'm not an elderly person having another go at the youth of today, I'm just sick of having to avoid the rubbish and trying to guide my toddler around to avoid it all!

It is horrendous down by the skate park, in the banking, in the beck.

Unfortunately, I am away next week and as such, will be unable to do anything towards clearing it for the next two weekends.

I honestly think that in regards to the skate park, it should be cleaned up and a sign should be put to say that if its not in the same clean condition in a montht he skate oark will be out of use for 2 weeks and hope they get the message! Talk about s****ing on your own doorstep!

I was down that way yesterday evening and over the wall from the ramps on the bank it is appalling. I am unavailable this week but will see try and make some time to get a group organised for the following weekend.

Silsden Environmental Action Team often do clean ups in that area. Because of the summer holiday season we haven't done one for a little while, as people are busy enjoying the good weather. Once the big summer rush is over we will be back organising some more clean ups and such. You will be most wleocme to come and help us. Dates of clean up are published on our website theenvironmentalgroup.silsden.net/ and our Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/448259328525841/

what about the pcso's spending some time down there and engaging with the youths and making them clean up there mess. Why should other people have to keep cleaning up after them, they will never learn to take a pride in anything if they are not made to do it.Regarding youths on the swings who left their litter, did you say anything to them? sometimes that is all it takes, if no one ever confronts them they feel invincible maybe say what would you feel like if I came and dropped a load of litter in your garden also take pictures with mobile phone. Is there cctv by skatepark? a bit of naming and shaming woul not go amiss

I shouted for them to stop and asked them how they'd feel if their kids had to play amongst the rubbish, they simply looked at me in disgust, muttered something and walked off! I think we should collect the rubbish and dump it all on the ramps, see how they like it!

I agree! Its totally disgusting! I have also noticed there is loads of glass on the floor dotted avout the park! I wish I was available to help with a clear up!
I did see the PCSO on Sunday evening in the park on Sunday, maybe he needs to dish out a couple of fines if he see's someone littering, they might stop it then!

Coming up this August Bank Holiday weekend is Silsdenbury Fest a free event run by volunteers for the local community. Taking place in the park there will be two days of musical entertainment made up of tribute and local bands, a funfair which will be open on the Friday evening as well as Saturday and Sunday, a licensed bar and refreshments. The bands will perform in a marquee holding 1,000 while a giant screen will be set up outside. This is fun for all the family so join in and bring a picnic to the park and enjoy the entertainment. Strictly no glass or fires. The team behind Silsdenbury are also looking out for people to help on the weekend with litter picking, raffle ticket selling, setting up and clearing away. If anyone can help, call Andy Conway 07957 887078 or Karen Amos 07740 766374. For more information on the line up go to silsdenevents.co.uk/about/event/

I am in the park a couple of times a day and never fail to pick up rubbish. I am available to help with an organised litter pick if you let me know when it is.
