Grandad who gets the other 20% ?,and you are the one who brought it up again. Also you have just stated that Town councillors would prefer to have an election every time, which is what I am saying I would like to happen to make it more democratic. So we agree.

Victor, If there is only one candidate there will not be a vote, so the only one standing will automatically get in.
I.E. if a person decided to stand as the village idiot and they were the only one who wanted to be known as the village idiot, then there would not be and election to decide who would be the village idiot, the one who stood would automatically be the village idiot.

Grandad I said that" the sitting MP received 80 % of the vote" therefore someone else received the other 20%. If the cap fits where it.

Victor, you have to be trying to wind me up! nobody can be that stupid.
One candidate and there is no election, therefore no vote to count.

Wouldnt Silsden be a much happier place if people stopped talking to others in a derogatory way, as if they are somehow different

I remember those years well midway. December 1973 petrol 35p a gallon, January 1974 petrol 70p a gallon. 50mph speed limit on all unrestricted roads. Maximum 2 gallons of petrol at service stations. Power cuts, homes lit by candle. Bread rationed queues at bakers. Runaway inflation. Threshold Agreement for wages whereby if inflation went up say 5% in any month then you got a 5% wage rise. Happy Days!
