IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Peter

Why has the BBC named the programme on Iraq, “ The Spies Who Fooled The World,” thereby putting the blame on the spies? This is very biased. The people who fooled the world were not the spies but the people who received the information. Evidence, ( and here, the BBC contradicts itself.) (a) Peter Taylor, ( BBC reporter,)said at 39:37 “ How the best intelligence was used selectively or ignored.” We will see if that phrase comes out in the BBC TV broadcast.
and
(b) BBC’s radio 4 Today programme, Bill Murray, the CIA head of station in Paris stated that the intelligence said that Sadam had virtually nothing. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01r9904 39:37
Transcript of Radio 4 interview.
40:09 The Intel came from two highly placed sources close to Sadam Nadji Sabri Iraq foreign minister and head of Intel Habbush al-Tikriti. The CIA head of station in Paris Bill Murray recruited an Arab intermediary to deal with the minister. Sept 2002, the intermediary met the minister in New York. Sadam said he gave chemical weapons to tribes that were loyal to him. He had intentions to have weapons of mass destruction. The report was very clear what he had and he had virtually nothing.
We could think, well, he wanted weapons of mass destruction but it is unfair to attack someone just because they wanted something. In Britain we cannot imprison someone for a crime they say, or look as though they may do, ( well, not yet anyway.)

Quite right we should just have let him carry on killing his own people by the thousand , nothing to do with us .
1 other point , both times I have watched this program I got the distinct impression that blame was also laid at the politicians as weel as the spies .

Wrong to use weapons of mass destruction as the reason for war.
After the first Gulf War Saddam was allowed to stay in charge with conditions. One of those was inspectors were allowed a free range. The deal should have been let the inspectors in or we will send the inspectors in with the army

The inspectors were let in before the war.
Comment after seeing the programme:-
Many sources lie. An integral part of the intelligence force’s job is to discover which source is true and which source is a fabrication. The security services do this all the time, with every operation. It is standard procedure. The intelligence services did just that. They informed the powers that be that some information was fabricated and they were ignored.
BBC was bias because it opened and closed with “Curveball” saying, “ yes” to the fact that the war was based upon a lie, his lie, thereby presenting the viewer with the impression that those to blame were the liars and not the US and UK powers who chose to ignore the facts when notified and we all know why.
See the programme at 6:40 - 7:16

All I did was change “6:40 - 7:16” to “6:40 to 7:16.” I inadvertently clicked on the icon with the red arrow and not the one with the pencil, for which I apologise if it caused a problem.

I think saying, " Please do not do this," would have been more polite, rather than shouting at me in capitals.
