Who is truly responsible for the current situation?

Who do you blame?

Do you accept any responsibility?

What are you prepared to accept to cure the situation?

Which mess would that be specifically? Like to choose from the list?

1 - Clobal warming and climate change?
2 - Global terrorism?
3 - Recession?
4 - MP's expenses?
5 - Too many adverts on Sky?

Please fell free to add any of your own messes to the list wink ;)

Well, the question was taken from a reply about MPs expenses, but you are quite right, the rest apply.

Not being a SKY subscriber I would not know the answer to 5, although it suggests the license fee and no adverts on BBC is a good deal.

wahiba is right, this comes out of the MP expenses fiasco......they are certainly to blame themselves, we should not feel any responsibility.....except we voted them in I suppose. The politicians recently spent weeks blaming the bankers for the problems of the whole world, to take pressure off themselves of course, and they are now getting their just rewards. And the press haven't even started on the MEPs yet...wait till that gravy train hits the sidings!
The only solution appears to be strong leaders who will not allow such things, and I'm afraid that Gordon Brown is the last man to be in charge of anything decisive, except how to knife his colleagues when they show any sign of refreshing initiative. That's why we need an election soon.

Strong leaders? Clegg, Cameron or Brown.........???

Maybe that young Willy Haigh, ohh they sacked him! :>

Bit of bad luck we've had there!

Now where can I sign up to emigrate? Bet Canada would be nice....

To be serious, ALL parties need to chuck out whoever has fiddled their expenses - they need to be ruthless - and the local parties need to be given time to reselect 'clean' MP's!

Then there should be an election.

Bit of bad luck for the Lib Dems with the biggest percentage at nearly 30% of their MP's though wink ;)

I wont apologise for not sticking to the topic as we have already discussed Canada, Reliant robin's and Global warming on this thread!!!
What about that couple, about a month ago, who went to their local "hole in the wall" and realised that when they took out their dosh, it didn't register, their balance stayed the same!!!..... didn't they draw around £60,000 and their defence was - "we are only human"

A very rough poll on a local radio station found only approx 72% would report it immediately. Does that make the other 28% unemployable, thieving low lifes?

Actually, Keith Lemon, you are not off topic, what you say sums up a lot about the mess we are in. A lot of people are trying to get things for nothing, have a dishonest attitude, don't insure their cars etc, and they think it's normal!
That's what some of the MP's are doing...playing the system for their own ends, and to hell with the taxpayer. The MEP's are the same, and their details are yet to emerge.
Let's get back to more honest ways of life, cut down on scams and treat each other better...who knows things might improve. We might also be setting a better example for future generations.

Rather obvious. The Raving Loony party - BNP?

I do wish people would study history a bit more though, then all this ignorance of our immigrant heritage would not surface so much.

"Don't make excuses to them Landrover..........just be proud to drive a real car not some Euro jelly mould"
my dear Alan, as my friend Edith and I have often observed throughout our lengthy years, men that drive large cars are often over compensating for other, much smaller things...the larger the vehicle the more they over compensate.Should we blame them for the mess we're in? well no,but it all adds to the deception and disappointment does'nt it?

large cars would that include large gas guzzling 4x4's
out of all the ilkley tractors in silsden
i wonder how many have to genuinely utilise the 4x4 system on a monthly basis

farmers fair enough they use them in churned up muddy fields
but most will be sitting in on tar or paving slab driveways and just drive to the office shops etc

I always had a yearning for a 4X4, but could never justify on any practical grounds.
Then I got a job in Oman and was offered a secondhand long wheelbase Pajero, 2.6 litre four banger petrol engine.
It was fine on the rough roads, but too heavy with standard tyres and sank into the sand. I got through a bit once flat out in low ratio first gear.
In the desert the locals used pick up trucks and the better off expats Toyota Land Cruisers. Big fat tyres helped.
The Pajero got a lot of abuse and never faltered. Had to replace the clutch, but that was all. Even the AC worked perfectly, and as it went up to 50 Celcius outside sometimes that was just as well.
A colleague had a Discovery, V8, it was always breaking down.
Best one I saw for storming up sand dunes was the Nissan Patrol.
On coming home my yearning was cured. I just feel sorry for all the 4X4 drivers who hardly ever get into 4X4 mode.
Here are some pictures and short movies:

there again my coupe and HF's C1 will also do this even when the yard is a mud swamp or the track is shot ice

4x4s are not the reason for the mess, but they are possibly a symptom.
Endless yearning for the useless is not confined to mere mortals, but is something that affects the Gods, ie MPs and their ilk. In their quests for the useless, such as 4x4s, they have bent the rules and been caught.
Same basic argument for alwys 'bonuses' that were bonuses for b---r all.
Aspiration however is a human traight that pushes us forward. That it might wobble now and again is something that we have to accept.
Water keeps flowing under the bridge, what goes around comes around so being optimistic is just the same as being pessimistic at the moment.

Correct wahiba, but isn't perhaps one of the reasons we are in a mess that we'd rather just leave it to the politicians and sit on our bums and complain when it goes wrong, and blame someone else!

These days it's getting harder to get people to volunteer to be school governors and unpaid councillors, what does that say about our caring society?
