I have been feeding the swans dried dog food - does anyone know if this is ok. Can anyone tell me what I should be feeding them. I used to give them cornflakes till I realised they were full of salt.
I want to help them not harm them.

this is what the Swan Sanctuary say:-

If you want to feed swans then give them fresh bread (mould is poisonous to them), grain such as wheat or corn, and fresh greens such as lettuce or spinach. The food should be thrown onto the water so that they can swallow water with the food - feeding them on land is environmentally unsound and encourages the swans to leave the water whenever they see people which can bring them into harm from cars, dogs etc.

hope this is helpful

You can get Swan and Duck food from the Garden centers that sell specialist bird foods. Got some at Woodbank lastyear. Too much bread can cause a condition called Angel Wing, due to the lack of nutrients. You do see the odd bird with it. A wing appears to be broken, hanging down.

There is a duck with a wing hanging down which has been like that for over a year, can ducks get Angel Wing and do you know if it can be fixed.
Thank you- Liz
