Topic : Silsden, Steeton, Eastburn and Addingham residents have been left without a proper voice on major planning matters |

From the Keighley News Silsden, Steeton, Eastburn and Addingham residents have been left without a proper voice on major planning matters affecting their villages. Cllr Naylor said none of the three democratically-elected district councillors would be able to speak for or against controversial Silsden issues including the current proposal to build an ‘enabling road’ from Bolton Road to a potential housing site in Hawber Cote. Cllr Naylor said: “The effect has been to stop all three of us commenting on applications in our area. The legal department in Planning have made it very clear that if you sit on any committee then you can’t represent your constituents. news.silsden.net/silsden-town-council/a-word-about-planning |

Well, they could all resign! If being the committees just allows them to mess with other wards what is the point? |

Probably for the first time i agree with Old_Miner!! I thought the same..what use are the Councillors on other planning committees and what use are they to us if they can’t represent their own communities? Their only use would be for self political career gain/advantage and not for any use in their own constituencies. If these councillors have been elected to represent us then that should be their purpose. They should resign from the planning panels with immediate effect and represent us where it counts. |

Totally agree they should resign from the planning committee, Jack Rickard need one seem to have any interest when he attended the recent public meeting at the town hall spending most of the time lookingt his phone, I understand he lives in Burley so maybe it’s time that he resigned all together and we get some one from Silsden To be a ward councillor and fight our corner |

This situation has now been resolved. All three of our Ward Councillors can now represent us at the Regs and Appeals Committee meetings (these are the planning meetings which are held in Bradford for large projects eg the proposed access road and large housing estates etc) For Local Area Planning meetings (held in Keighley) there will be some representation restrictions because Councillors Naylor and Rickard are members of the planning committee. Councillor Whittaker is not a member of the Local Planning Committee and is free to represent us if required. The plans dealt with at Keighley are small planning matters which affect individuals. |
