We noticed our BT line had a lot of background noise yesterday afternoon. It is still the same. I have just been on the BT website and tested our line. I entered my mobile number for a reply. I immediately received texts to say there is a fault which affects many customers. I assume this might affect Sky customers who have a BT line.

Yes, us too. Getting the hump as we are missing calls due to the crackle. Making a call out is impossible. Oh the joys of modern technology

If your telephone company is BT, you can report a fault 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling:
Residential Customers: 0800 800 151
Business Customers: 0800 800 154 Or, online at: www.BT.com/faults

Just rang BT - bad news I'm afraid. sad :(sad :(sad :( The fault will be ongoing until the 23 June (yes I typed that correctly). They are replacing a 1000 line cable which will involve demolishing the exchange, or some of it at least, this can only be done out of hours because of the location. Some user will get fault issues resolved before the 23rd as lines are moved over.

As I have a business line I have been able to get my incoming calls diverted to my mobile (not sure if this can be done if it's residential). If your phone is provided by someone other than BT but perhaps BT provides the line - good luck.

When my telephone went down due to cable fault a few years ago BT diverted my incoming calls to my mobile,at no cost to me. It's certainly worth asking.

I have just received my monthly Virgin media bill which has a telephone line attached to the service. I haven't used this telephone line for more than a year but put a phone on the line to make calls out when the BT line was so bad it was impossible to use.

My Virgin bill is an extra £22 so I think I will be claiming compensation from BT.

This is the information I have found so far, but how to actually claim seems to be a bit of a secret.
