I was in Netto yesterday and one of the staff told me that the store is due to close at the end of September unless a new buyer can be found.
I think everyone thought that Asda, the present owners, would keep it open as a convenience store but the main Asda store is already open 24 hours I believe.

The shelves are really empty now with large gaps. It is not like the old Netto was. I know it was like going to a jumble sale at times but I think that was the attraction in that you could find a lot of bargains.

I have noticed that Aldi has now got a lot busier and is probably due to the fact that Netto is now running down their stocks.

It would be interesting to hear of other peoples views on shopping at Netto and are they sorry that we are losing this store?

Although Asda have bought out Netto, they will have to close it as they are not allowed 2 stores in the same town if they are over a certain amount of square footage. This would also apply to Morrisons. They have bought several Netto from Asda, but they have been mainly in small areas.

Asda had to seek approval to purchase Netto. Part of the deal was they had to sell some that were near existing Asda's. Keighley being one of those.
Some of those were sold to Morrisons and some to UGO which look excatly like Netto
www.ugoshopping.net/UGO_online_leaflet/index.html
It looks like there are no takers for the Keighley shop.

The only people who might buy the Netto store as a food store are:

Tesco?
Lidl - possibly too small
Waitrose - wrong type of area
a n other - Londis! (other odd balls wishing to expand)

All the others are precluded as they already have stores nearby.

Is it true Asda no longer have to sell the Keighley Netto and it will re-open as a ASDA?

Blimey - if Keighley gets a Tescos it will really be a full house town for major super markets.

Curious about Netto becoming an ASDA though. Maybe it is near enough to the main store be classified as an annex?

How interesting.

Always seemed to be a funny place for that type of store. I wonder what ASDA have in mind?

I have heard on good authority today that Asda will re-open Netto under the Netto name on the 10th October. All the staff that worked in Netto are now in training at the Asda store in Keighley while the Netto store is being refurbished but it won't be like the Netto store of old.

Have just been into Home Bargains, give it a try. Very impressed, clean, light and bright, a really good selection of items that are mainly named brands. Give it a try, worth the detour if you are going into Keighley shopping. The prices are much lower than some other supermarkets.
