Before anyone slags me of for moaning about this I'll just say you don't have to read this thread, it's clear from the topic what it's about.
The newly re-build flowerbeds look quite nice, let's hope they stay that way. If some youths I saw riding their bikes round the edge have their way I doubt it. I saw them on Thursday evening, about four of them and thought I'll have a word with those lads on my way back up the road in a minute. When I came back they'd already gone.
What is the answer to this? Do you think it is a problem?
Remembering the state the old flowerbed got into with riders dislodging the top stones I do think this is a problem.
I wonder if these lads' parents would tell them to stop if they saw them. Could that be the way to tackle them? I'm not against having a friendly word myself, but I have been sworn at in the past.
Is the rocks and ramps so unattractive? Is it not lit at night? Or are these just lads looking for an audience or mischief or wanting a chase and would ride here no matter how good rocks'n'ramps are?
Will the CCTV, which I understand will have one camera on the re-instated traffic island, help? Could we see ASBOs or bike confiscations for repeat offenders.
I suppose some of the youth council may take offense at my post but be aware I'm not tarring all youth with the same brush. The young people who are interested in the YC I'm sure would not indulge in such behaviour.
This is a moan, but it's more than that, it's a serious question about how we (the people of silsden, not just the forum) tackle this issue. |

we will get the mugging, underage drinking, petty theft etc reports that the kids would be doing if not riding on the walls So if kids are told to stop riding their bikes on walls they will turn to mugging, drinking and theft? Yeah right, live in the real world Bob T.

Alan and your pals don't bite this is old hat I rather think that's up to them. Not really contributing much to this thread are you Bob?
It's good to hear a PCSO was around to have a word with them, let's hope their presence continues enough to have a lasting effect. |

Think if Bob T checks the last threads on this issue jonno he'll find that I generally stuck up for the majority of kids in Silsden!
Perhaps he don't know how to search, or maybe just likes to stifle comment. |

There is sometimes a problem "having a word" with teenagers. I had a word with 1 lad who threw a can into my garden a few months back, he gave me some lip so i grabbed him and marched him round to his dad's house 100 yds away, he told me "yeah mate, walk me home and see what my dad does... ha haa" when we got there after a few minutes me and his dad were fighting on the drive which got me a visit from the local copper.
If i had a word with anyone again, if possible, i would get the attention of someone nearby to see my intentions in case it all went sour. |

Keith I agree, my experiences with having a friendly word with teenagers (and below) have varied greatly. Some are OK, some are...not.
If they are of the not variety I just walk away and don't waste any more breath on them.
Is it me or have we had a slightly increased presence from our PCSOs recently? |

I noticed that the raised cycle track had been re-instated. I would have thought the opportunity was there to make it less attractive to cycling on.javascript:smileyInsert(topicform.message, '
Now if the bridge across the beck is replaced soon then access to rocks will be easier. |
