IMPORTANT PLEASE READ This website and forum has been living on borrowed web server time for years. At the end of this month silsden.net in it's present form will cease to exist, BUT there is a new silsden.net in the making, and a new forum, and lots of exciting new things coming to this space. Called in tonight around 10ish whilst a tanker was making a delivery.Strange that the 2p increase in duty was already in place.Im sure they hadnt had a delivery already today. |

ah now 'gazzer' you seem to be thinking along the lines that I used to in that companies play fair when it comes to making us pay for essential services, one whiff of trouble in the oil fields and the price goes through the roof, you'll find that when the trouble in the oil fields goes away the price still stays high (albeit slightly different this time with it being the chancellor). Same principle with mortgages, if the Bank of England's base rate goes up Banks and building soc's instantly put the rates up, when it comes back down again it takes them much longer to change it. But in the subject of petrol i was only saying the other day isn't it funny that a few years ago when it hit 76.9p (for crying out loud just call it 77p and have done with it) there was outcry and protests, and the whole world (or so the media would have you believe) ground to a halt. now it's a couple of pence shy of a pound, it's business as usual. although on the funny side a friend of mine once said "this petrol price rise doesn't effect me i still put my £20 in" !!! and finally..... the rhetorical irony, government want to takle inflation, therefore they put up the fuel duty ! or am i missing something? or is it just me ???????? |

I'm glad someone else has noticed, take note when the price comes down, it takes time for the saving to filter through to the pumps. |

Also notice that it is more expensive in Silsden than Keighley. Does it cost more to deliver here? |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) i generally get petrol when im out and about a little help for everyone might be this site www.petrolprices.com on the whole i get supermarket fuel as its cheaper |

In real terms petrol is not any more expensive than it was 40 years ago. Then 40 mpg from a car was good, most were nearer 30. Today most cars are in the 40 to 50 mpg bracket. For the record in 1965 it was around 25p a gallon or 6p a litre. I remember working at a petrol station and getting paid 28p an hour. People were able to afford it then so they certainly can now. Whingeing about the price of petrol is just a ploy put about by those not in power and their mouthpiece newspapers. By the way, crime has not got any worse but try getting people to believe that!!!! |

Pricey. I was selling it at 4/11 gallon in the mid 60s. Remember because it was the last time it was just possible to get 4 gallons for under a pound. If I remember correctly beer was still less than 2/- or 10p a pint!! |
