This weekend sees 85 junior sides from all over the North of England compete in the annual 6 - a - side competitions down at Keighley Road. The first game kicks of on both days at 9.45. With so many teams and players we usually attract the scouts from Premier and Championship sides as well as the lower divisions. Off road parking is free and admission is only £3 a family and includes a programme. Brave the summer weather and see the kids of the future, full catering at low prices available all day. |

Well done everyone at Silsden AFC for doing their best to sort out previous parking problems around the ground. Following consultations with the police improvements were made to matchday arrangements and no complaints appeared on silsden.net during the season just completed. Still its a big test this weekend as many drivers will turn up having not been to Silsden before so might be tempted to dump their cars. And im sure someone else will see this as a major problem and have a moan!!!! |

It's a credit to Silsden that this Tournament takes place...it may inconvenience some of us a bit, but it's only one weekend, and we must remember the pleasure it will bring to a lot of youngsters...winners and losers |

Dodzi - Lets hope the standard of parking down there is better than normal
Dodzi, we have done our best on day one and tomorrow the police will help and stop people parking not only both sides of Keighley Road but also on Belton Road. Today we provided free parking for 250 cars which we marshaled, you would not believe the people who ignored this, so sorry to all for any inconvenience. Tomorrow is supposed to be a much better day, why not join us, only £3 for a family with free parking? |

The police were out putting tickets on cars this morning and still they parked on both sides of the road. Will it be as lucrative tomorrow for the police Christmas party? |

Its typical policing once again, if some breaks in you house you get a crime referance number and a survey report to fill in on how they handled your call, ask for help and assistance with the planning an event and they tell you they are a bit short staffed and dont have resources, hold an event that benefits the community, that brings visitors to our town who have never been here before and they get a parking ticket within 20 mins, shame on the police force for not supporting local groups who do help with the traffic calming speeders who fly up and down keighley rd.
Well done to all at Silsden AFC and the people who put on the diamond do you are a credit to the community , wish I could say the same for our local police force who could not run a bath!. Rant over but this happens every year, enjoy the xmas party on the proceeds.

The parking was MUCH better organised today. There was a Neighbourhood Policeman moving on those that tried to park on the Aire Bridge, and on the beck side of Keighley Road it was clear because there were 'no parking' cones.

Why don't the 'Football' people seek to buy the field alongside the river Aire (where C/b sales are held?) Surface it etc and make a proper area for car parking. So stop causing obstruction and inconvenience to every passing vehicle and pedestrian. Surely they are capable of walking so far. |

Except for special events is plenty of room on the industrial estate opposite. Unfortunately this means people have to walk!!!!!
Actually the suggestion about the car boot field is quite sensible. It does not need paving over as is quite flat. Do not know who owns it but I am sure a deal could be made with the football club.
Double yellow lines will no doubt sort the problem out once and for all. |

original - Why don't the 'Football' people seek to buy the field alongside the river Aire (where C/b sales are held?) Surface it etc and make a proper area for car parking.******** Silsden AFC are committed to providing football training for boys and girls from age under 6 to open age. All helpers and committee members are voluntary and every penny raised goes back in to promote football. We provided a car park to hold over 300 on Saturday and Sunday but people decided to ignore and park on the road. We announced 10 or 15 times over the loudspeaker and a committee man went round every single competing club manager to ask them to tell their parents. Weavestyle very generously allow is to use the car parking and the paddock behind the club house free of charge. The field opposite the ground has always been offered to us but with it being so wet it would have been unfair to churn it up. So i think we did all we could, by the way an acre of arable land starts at about £12k so the riverside field if say 10 acres would be around £120k, if we got matched funding, where would we get £60k from, and why would we want to, not the best of ideas me thinks? |

The original and others make it sound so easy, apply for a lottery grant, buy a feild buy a car park, just as the listner says Silsden fc is run by volunteers, if you read the board at the entrance to the ground you wil see football foundation donated the grant after many many years of trying , we are constantly applying for grants sponsorship and donations, however over the past few years we have made some terrific progress to help the local community, this year the silsden scouts majoretts and quite a few other groups have benefited from our hard work, ideas are great but any one can can come up with them its easy , its making it work against all the objections that counts. People like the dog catcher and others should be proud to be Silsden resident and support local groups rather than pick fault, how many times in a weekend do they use Keighley rd? Silsden fc 6 aside need to raise money to by car parks etc. My previouse rant was at the police who did nothing to move the gypsies once they had gone leaving a trail of destruction and damage to the football feilds , by letting their kids drive their quads over the land the land owner then built piles of earth to stop people coming into weave style car park including us,the car park was always given to us on 6 a side weekend and took around 200 plus cars off the road, thanks to the police in activity and the gypsies we lost the car park, which gives the dog catcher and other the chance to moan, perhaps he should direct his anger at the people who caused the problem and get off the backs of people who try to do good for the community. |
